Specific Objective: The main objective of this activity is to teach the students how
to be a good sport when they lose and also to be a good teammate and cheer
on their fellow students.
Concomitant Objective: The students will be physically active when they are in
the game of lightning, and they will work on their basketball shot.

Set Induction: Ask students if anyone likes basketball


or has ever played the game lightning.
-Explain how I loved basketball growing up and my
favorite game was lightning
-Explain that the game is called lightning is called
because lightning strikes quickly, and in this game you
have to move lightning quick in order to stay in and win.

Learnable Piece: The object today is to be a good sport


and to support your classmates, even in defeat.
-Once players are out, they will be a cheering section for
the person that got them out.
-Objective: be able to explain what it means to be a
good sport.
Presentation of New Material/Directions: -Explain the
rules
-Going to be 4 games played to start, and the 4 winners
will play at the end to decide the 1 true winner
-Each game is played with 2 basketballs and starts with
the students in a single file line starting on the free throw
line going back towards half-court. The first 2 students
have the basketballs
-The first person shoots from the free throw line, and
then immediately after he/she shoots, the second person
shoots. Each player must get their rebound after they
shoot.

-Each player shoots until they make it (only first shot is


from the FTL, the rest of the shots from anywhere
-If student 1 makes it before student 2, then he/she
passes it to player 3 and they shoot to try and make a
shot before player 2
-A player is eliminated when the person behind them
makes a shot before they do on that particular team
-Once eliminated, the student must cheer for the person
who eliminated them, if that person gets out, then they
cheer for who got them out
-The winner is the person who eliminates the final player
-At the end, all 4 winners will play to see who wins it all
-Ask if there are any questions
-Thumbs up if you understand

Possible Modifications: If game is too easy, play from


the 3-point line instead to start. If game is too hard,
move students a step in at a time until it is fair
