7.0 CONCLUSION
14

There is always the possibility of an accident, damage or hazard to someone's health and
safety in any field of works. All work always exposes people to hazards. The hazards may be
in term of loads which have to be manually handled, dangerous machinery, toxic substances,
electricity or even psychological hazards such as stress.
Most accidents happen because they are not being prevented. Therefore, attention to health
and safety is not just about being socially responsible. Employers must ensure the absence of
risk to safety and health of their employees as far as reasonably practicable. Besides that, it is
important to have a very well organized policy to manage the health and safety in workplace.
Plus, it is also important to appoint a competent person like Safety Officer to help in comply
with legal obligations.
Generally, most part of sections in Act 514 (OSHA 1994) and Act 139 (FMA 1967) list out
certain health and safety goals to be achieved and indicates appropriate benchmarks to guide
and control the hazards at the workplaces. There is also an underlying requirement to
minimize or eliminate hazards at source, or isolate people from them before using other forms
of control.
