site supervisor, etc.
When the child decides to leave the base, they explore
their world. When they feel that they need security
again, they have their attachment figure as a safe place
for them to return too. Once the child feels that they
have satisfied their emotional needs, they venture out
again. The workshop explained this circle and some of
the complications that arise with it. These include; an
inability for the child to leave the safe base, an inability
to return to the safe place or a break of the circle all
together. This is when the figure responds incorrectly or
not at all. The workshop explained in detail how this
circle of security works and how it can be applied in the
field.

2. The session was delivered by two professionals
who attended a three-day workshop on the
topic.
3. There were numerous videos to provide
examples of the circle of security in use.

-Did you make any adaptation or
modifications? If so, what were

-What type of experience might you
plan to extend on this one?
The workshop was very interesting and touched on a
topic that is very important in the early years. The
material was delivered through videos; which made it
much easier to follow along. Additionally, the workshop
showed many examples of parents using the circle of
security. This helped with seeing the concept in action. I
learned a lot about how a parents past can interrupt the
circle of security, and therefore, affect how they attend
to their childs emotions. Some parents have issues
dealing with specific emotions displayed by their child
due to their past and how their parents handled that
specific emotion for them. The workshop overall was
very educational, however, it was geared more towards
parents. I believe it may have been a little more
beneficial if they managed to gear it more towards child
educators, since that is who was present at the
workshop.
