Mini Lesson Plan: The Recess Queen Book

The mini lesson plan introduces the book "The Recess Queen" to students. The objective is for students to comprehend the story, compare and contrast the two main characters, and create a Venn diagram. The teacher will do a 25-30 minute read aloud of the book, asking questions before, during, and after reading. Students will be asked to think about how the characters are similar and different. After reading, the class will create a Venn diagram comparing the two characters, and then students will make their own individual Venn diagrams.

1. Introduce lesson, explain objective.

Introduce the book
Before reading the book, I asked the students
to think about the characters we are going to
read about and how they are similar and
different.
I asked the students what compare and
contrast to make sure they knew the
definitions of compare (similarities) and
contrast (differences).
2. Demonstrate objective (model); reference
book as needed, provide examples (e.g.,
visuals, demonstrations for objective).
