Sports should be an essential part in todays society.

Do you agree or disagree?

Sport is an important part of today's society and plays a large role in many
people's lives. Now more than ever, sport events dominate headlines and athletes
have become national heroes. In addition, sport has turned the national heroes into
profitable professions such famous footballers, basketball players and many more.
The question is does sport merit this kind of interest and attention? In order to
come to an informed conclusion whether sports should be an essential part of
our society, one must look at a few aspects.
Firstly, from a social standpoint, it is argued that sports play a positive
role in uniting people from different social backgrounds. A clear example is
seen in their support of their favourite team at sports events. For instance, many
football supporters, despite their different backgrounds, languages, religions,
beliefs and cultures, often come together in support of a particular team or country
during the World Cup matches. Therefore, such events can provide a good
platform to help people understand and tolerate each other.
However, just as sports unite people, it can also divide them. This is
often demonstrated by crowd violence at football matches. When a team loses, that
particular team supporters will start fighting with or throwing harmful objects at
the other winning team supporters. This shows that sport can bring negative impact
on the peace and unity among the nations. In brief, sport has great impact on the
social point of view where peace and unity are concerned.
Another counter-argument to the topic is that sports indirectly affect a
persons health. The world of sports is a very lucrative industry. Many
companies spend large sums of money to event organisers to promote their
products such as cigarettes and alcohol beverages, which are harmful to one's
health. Continuous exposure of such products in sporting events may lead people

to accept these products into their lives. In conclusion, sports do have the ability to
impact a persons life in a negative way.
To sum up, it is obvious that sports have a negative influence on the society
provided they are properly used for sportsmanship. Therefore, it is possible for the
society to have sports in their life as the physical activities do contribute to health
care issues.
