Rotor Bar Replacement/Repair

AC Squirrel Cage Induction Motor
A. Initial Inspections and Tests
General inspection as required, normally including:
Receive, visual inspect and photograph machine (as applicable)
Inspect exterior of rotor for defects
Thoroughly clean and inspect all parts
Rotor inspection as required, normally including:
Perform micrometer check on shaft journal areas, coupling fit area, all shaft seal fit
areas and record measurements.
Perform micrometer check on coupling bore (if applicable).
Measure and record all dimensions for seals, bearings and housings (if applicable).
Clean and inspect bearings and advise if replacement is necessary (if applicable).
Measure rotor total indicated run-outs (TIR).
Thoroughly inspect the rotor for condition of rotor bars, end rings core iron, etc.
Cooling fan inspection as required, normally including:
Visual examination
Inspect fan blades and welds for notches and cracks
Perform dye penetrant (DP) test on welds
B. Rotor Bar Replacement/Repair
Rotor bar replacement/repair as required, normally including:
Record rotor dimensional data, bar location, length, etc.
Disconnect and remove the end rings.
Remove the rotor bars from core.
Steam clean the rotor and all component parts with proven methods and materials to
avoid damage to the insulation systems.
Oven dry the rotor and component parts to insure optimum dryness.
Analyze bar material and fabricate new bars.
Fabricate new end rings (if required). Clean and prepare the core slots for installation
of bars. Check laminations.
Install rotor bars.
Braze rotor bars to end rings.
Perform DP Test on rotor-brazed joints.
Dynamically balance rotor to ISO Grade G 2.5.
Polish shaft journals and seal fit areas.
Spray paint exterior and prepare for shipment.
C. Final Inspection and Testing
General inspection as required, normally including:
Visual examination
