nouns (men, women, children, etc.) and singular possessive nouns. Specific pages
that will be covered are pages 78-81.

READING

Our unit 2; week 2 essential question is Why do people immigrate

to new places? Our skills for this week are making predictions, identifying the
theme (authors message), and understanding the meanings of similes. This weeks

arrays, the Commutative Property of Multiplication, and multiplying with 1 and 0.
Specific pages that will be covered are pages 115-130. We will spend Thursday and
Friday reviewing chapter 3 skills in preparation for a test next Tuesday (the 18th).
Please look for a review and a practice test to come home with your child on Friday.
On Wednesday, students will have a 100 problem/9 minute quiz on basic subtraction
facts.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We will leave science for this nine weeks and focus on social
studies. I usually cover map skills and types of communities first and then study
government. However, with the presidential election in full swing right now and
students participating in the Libertys Legacy program, I thought it would be perfect
timing to study government. Our lessons will first focus on why we have laws and
how local government works (the roles of the mayor and city council). Mrs. Dunn
has even arranged for Judge Speakman to come and speak to third grade this week
about local government!
