AS11 - Create Asset Sub-Number
Functionality
The Sub Asset is a very powerful functionality of SAP. Let us take an example you have
purchased a brand new car. The car is capitalized as the main asset. You fit in an
accessory a stereo music system in the car. This stereo system can be capitalized as a sub
asset
In SAP the main asset number is a 12 characters alpha-numeric and sub asset is 4
characters. The main asset number represents the asset as a whole. Parts of assets can
be represented by different sub-numbers.
Every master record is automatically created with at least one sub-number, even if no subassets exist. The system marks the first master record as an asset main number master
record. When you use internal sub-number assignment, this main number has sub-number
"0000". You can create additional sub-numbers for this main number master record. The
system manages values for each sub-number for every individual depreciation area in year
segments.
Scenario
You want to create an asset sub-number for a music system purchased for a car
