CASING ADVANCEMENT SYSTEMS INTRODUCTION
CASING ADVANCEMENT SYSTEMS
DEFINITION
Eccentric
Casing advancement system is simple
method of drilling through overburden
while advancing the casing into the
hole at the same time.
We offer two type of system with
rotary percussion drilling method
Eccentric system - Odex
Concentric system Symmetrix
(Elemex - controlled air flush)
In both system the casing is not
rotated and flushing is through the
casing
Concentric
CASING ADVANCEMENT SYSTEMS
WHY THEY ARE USED?
To drill trough overburden and unconsolidated formations that have the
risk of hole collapse.
Overburden & Unconsolidated formation refers to loose material such as
clay, silt, sand, gravel, cobbles, boulders and very fractured rock which
challenge the engineers around the world for any type of drilling,
geotechnical works and excavation.

SELECTING RIGHT PRODUCTS
Permanent Casings are used used as
sacrificial element just to keep the hole
open, bearing structure of the pile or as
sacrificial element to protect the pile against
corrosion.
Retrievable Casings are used when the
casing only is needed during the drilling
process.
CASING ADVANCEMENT SYSTEMS
Selecting right product
ODEX - Drill trough diameter is the
inner diameter of the casing shoe
(usually equal to pilot bit OD)
Symmetrix & Elemex - Drill trough diameter is the
inner diameter of the ring bit or the ring bit set

STORY - ELEMEX
INTRODUCTION
Steel Core Piles are used
extensively in Scandinavia
This type of pile is considered
reliable and for urban
environment it has several
advantages
One of the critical phases of
the installation is the drilling of
the casing
DRILLED FOUNDATIONS
Today the drilled foundation, like
steel core piles, drilled steel tube
and drill pile walls, increased the
use of the down the hole hammer
due to the:
Higher productivity
Flexible method for large variety of
geological formation
But the risk of Air Leakage & Over
Drilling which can effect
surrounding structures specially in
sensitive areas
is a concern!

ELEMEX
New Method for reduction of settlements during casing drilling
Elemex system minimize the risk, thanks to:
- Unique bit face design,
- Extended ring bit walls,
Results:
- Dropped air

GEOTHERMAL WELL DRILLING
Geothermal heating of houses are increasingly popular due to both
economical advantages as well as environmental concerns. Casing
advancement systems are often used to drill the holes through the
overburden, keeping the hole open during installation of the heat exchange
system and minimizing the impact on surrounding structures.
GO BACK
WATER WELL DRILLING
Water well drilling is common application all over the world. The casings
advancement system are used in places it is needed to keep the hole open to
install the screen casing and / or water pump. Atlas Copco offers a solution that
can be used with small, compact rigs (using the DTH drilling method) with
excellent results in almost any ground condition.

GO BACK
PIPE ROOFING
Pipe roofing is a method to pre-reinforce the ground ahead of a tunnel face to
ensure that excavation can proceed safely. A steel casing is installed in an
umbrella pattern around the excavation line, forming a protective arch under
which the tunnel can advance.
GO BACK
FOUNDATION DRILLING
On the foundation drilling the casings advancement systems can be used in
end bearing piles, where the installed casing can work as bearing support, or in
friction piles where the casing is used only as element to keep the hole open
during the drill process.
GO BACK
ANCHORING
Anchoring is usual method to provide support for slopes or other structures.
The anchors can be installed in combination with a retaining wall structure, as
individual or systematic support. Usually the casings advancement system
are used to keep the hole open during the anchor installation.
