Cell Structure

Cell structures such as the cell membrane, cell wall, nucleus, and mitochondria have important functions. The cell membrane controls what enters and exits the cell, maintains homeostasis, and provides a barrier between the cell and its environment. The nucleus contains the cell's hereditary material and controls its activities. Mitochondria break down glucose to release energy through cellular respiration. Other organelles like the endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, vacuoles, and chloroplasts support protein synthesis, food storage, and photosynthesis.
