Sibyl Dittberners home at 485 S. Via Vista

multiple award-winning author, Anthony
Doerr.
Please note weve changed our time on
Thursdays to 1:30 P.M.

Parlor Class Moves to

Second Book
The Parlor Class,
which has been working its
way through the Gospel of John
since late March/early April, concluded its use
of the first of the two-book commentary
on this gospel written by William Barclay. This
book dealt with chapters 1 through 7. They will
be starting with the second of his two books
this coming Sunday beginning with one of the
most dramatic stories from the New
TestamentJesus encounter with the woman
caught in adultery. That story begins with the
first verse of the eighth chapter of Johns
gospel. We have extra copies of the second
book of this set available to newcomers from
the Church Library. So, now would be a good
time for you to become involved with the ongoing study of Johns beloved gospel.
We meet at 9 A.M. in Chapman Lounge
each Sunday. Ed Linberg serves as the
facilitator/teacher. Wed love to have you join
us as we move further into this very important
book from the New Testament. When will we
finish this study? Thats anyones guess, but
prior to Easter 2017, which falls on April 16
might be a good guess given the rate at which
we have studied the first seven chapters of this
book together.

$TEW$ NEW$
In keeping with our belief
of transparency and ensuring
our congregation stays
informed, we want to share items discussed at
our July and August Stewardship/Property
Ministry Team meetings. First, we made a
recommendation to the Council of Elders to
have all our financial records reviewed by an
outside source. It has been many years since
we have undergone this process and we felt it
was long overdue. Our goal is to have this
accomplished by year-end, making sure
everything is balanced and our financial health
is sound.
We have good news and not so great
news as far as our giving this year. The good
news is our giving is up $200.00 from last year
at this time. The not so great news is that it is
9.04% below our budget goal, or in dollar
amount $11,295.69. With the addition of
$6,250.00 allocated from the Chapman bequest,
our income minus expenses year-to-date as of
July 31st is $2,391.04. In the next few months,
we will be analyzing giving trends over the
year. We know usually we have a spike in
December and occasionally around tax time,
though not this year. We want to give these
patterns further analysis so as not to panic
when our goals are not met and our expenses
exceed our income and adjust our next budget
accordingly. We are distributing giving
statements in the next few weeks so everyone
can see if they are on track for giving this year.
However, there seems to be a glitch in the
software for printing the statements. The
weekly or monthly totals are correct. The
overall total is not adding up to your actual
giving. Please consult your weekly or monthly
contribution for the correct number. This will
be corrected on our next run.
Our Ministry Team meets every 3rd
Wednesday at 7 P.M. and everyone is welcome.
If you like puzzles, this may be your call to
service.

Chapman Bequest
In July, the Trustees,
Council of Elders, and
Stewardship Ministry team met in their
separate meetings to discuss the disposition of
funds from the Chapman Trust. Our Bequest
Fund Policy states that an undesignated
bequest be divided as such: 25% will be
transferred to outreach causes as
recommended by the Outreach Ministry Team
and approved by the Council of Elders. The
second 25% will go into the General Fund, and
the remaining 50% will go into the Capital
Bequest Fund for capital improvements. We
will be making the first distribution of $25,000
this month. Based on the formula above,
Outreach will receive $6250.00, the General
Fund will receive $6250.00, and the Capital
Bequest Trust Fund will receive $12,500.00. The
remaining $165,000.00 will be transferred into a
Living Trust Fund at the Christian Church
Foundation where it will accrue interest. As
additional money is distributed, our Bequest
Policy will be followed. Ernie Chapman
believed in our church and was a huge
proponent of outreach; we hope he would be
very happy with our handling of his legacy.

Sunnycrest Worship
Service
Do you have a desire to
help Seniors in our area? Every
fourth Sunday of the month, FCCF holds a 2;00
p.m. worship service at Sunnycrest for the
residents. This got started by our own, Norma
Rill, who lives there asking if we would
provide a hopeful worship service with
familiar hymns, communion for all, etc.
We can always use more people to sit
with the residents, help them with
communion, singing, and just visiting and
showing them that there are people outside
their walls who care about them. It is only
about 30 40 minutes long and very
rewarding. Come join us!

Hospitalily & Welcome

"Attention all Young
Artists!
How would you like to have
your art included in our Recipe Collection? To add
a personal touch and a sense of fun, we will include
drawings and paintings of any food. Could be a
hot dog, an ice cream cone, a fish or chicken, a bowl
of spaghetti, an apple...draw us your favorite food
and we will include it in the collection. Parents,
Grandparents, I hope you will work with your
kids/grandkids and encourage them to
participate. Should make this book quite special!
Any size will be accepted. Please place the piece of
art in the large manilla envelope at the Hospitality
Table by September 11th. Questions? Thank you! "

Saturday with Grandma

Saturdays with Grandma
will be a time for women of our
church to meet with the children
and youth of our church and the
community to share some of our
hobbies, etc, and in turn the kids can help us
with the new technologies that challenge some
of us older women.
It will start in the fall probably on a
Saturday the first part of November from 9
11 a.m. We are looking for anything you
would like to share, for example, quilting,
sewing, cooking. Contact Donna Woodbridge
if you would like to be involved and what
Saturdays are best for you.
