The

I-Search is a 750 word paperthat will take you through the stages of writing. Your paper will
focus on an original topic to which you feel a personal connection. It will be researched away
from libraries and the internet. Instead, you will take advantage of the resources available in
your community. Your project will be collected in a portfolio to include the stages of writing, 3
artifacts and the 750-word paper.

You could choose to research family history, local history, architecture in your home town, or
anything that has piqued your curiosity in your world. Once you have chosen a research topic,
you could consider the following as resources:
Family members
Members of the community
Teachers at Colegio Canadiense
The museum

*Consult with me if you need more ideas.

From these resources, you will collect 3 artifacts. These could be:
Interview transcripts (or notes)
Pictures, paintings, sculptures
Letters, diaries, records.

Include a note attached to each explain how you found the artifacts and how it contributes to
your research paper. You will present your findings in the paper and explain the how the
artifacts are significant to your research.

You must keep a record of the stages of writing and include them in the portfolio. The 3 stages I
want you to include are:
Prewriting: a graphic organizer
Revision: a record of conferencing
Editing: Beyond Spellcheck
