Peace Route
Learn about the armed conflict in El Salvador and its
historical legacy, museums dedicated to those who died
during the war, Be part of this memory wich must remember
to love peace

This route has been appointed in this way for a period of tranquility that
is located in the area, after 12 years of civil war; Since this area was one
of the main scenes of great battles. The path of peace is located in the
Department of Morazn and includes a varied number of peoples. The
Department of Morazn is located in the eastern part of El Salvador; the
departmental capital is San Francisco Gotera, which is 167 km from the
city of San Salvador.
This route gives the opportunity to meet the contemporary history of El
Salvador, the inherited cultural roots of the ancient indigenous
inhabitants of Lenca origin. The villages that make up the path to peace
have deeply-rooted traditions of settlers ancestors, which can be seen in
the daily life of the inhabitants of these villages.
It Cannot be overlooked to mention that in the path of peace you can
enjoy a pleasant atmosphere of nature, pure air, Crystal streams and
springs; In addition, the lush vegetation of the Highlands of Morazn.
Below is a brief description of the villages that make up the path of
peace.

Arambala

It has a cool climate and its flora is constituted mainly by pine and oak
forest. In language Potn Arambala means: River of scorpions. This
pre-Columbian village was founded by indigenous Lenca giant squid.
This village is ideal for eco-tourism. This town is the inflow of the river
Toad, which is characterized by the green color of its waters.
If you love pleasant weather and nature landscapes this is for you. This
location has several places to practice ecotourism like it's amazing river
"Ro Sapo" Come on and be part of the adventure in one of the most
impressive rivers of El Salvador.

El Rosario

Its main attractive tourism is the Araute River which has a place with hot
springs. Its location is just 20 minutes from the population and you can
enjoy a cascade of more than 30 meters high.A peculiar town
distinguished by its clean streets with a colonial church built with a mud
bricks named "Adobes". Its origins came from a indigena hamlet named
in Poton language "Araute" and means "The four houses valley".

Jocoaltique

It is known as the "City of Los Portales" for its wide outside corridors in
front of the main houses of the village. The original name of this town is
Yucuaytique, in the Potn language that means "Hill in the village of
fire." Like most villages in northern Morazan that were devastated
product of the civil war of the eighties, Jocoaitique was no exception and
what was once a flourishing trade town became a ghost place. But his
enterprising people have repopulated and has again given life to the
eternal city of portals.
Its main attractions is the Araute River that has its source in this area.
This River is surrounded by lush vegetation. It is a place where birds and

Joateca

The town is surrounded by mountains and lush vegetation, especially of


pine forest. This place is a site of hot springs in its natural state, and is
where the birth of the Torola River.

Meanguera

Population of pre-Columbian origin and means in language giant squid


City of the Jadeite its main attraction is the El Mozote site, is a
memorial dedicated to victims of the population of El Mozote were
massacred by the army of El Salvador during the civil war.
This place has a village regrettably known for one of the most dread
genocides in the El Salvador history committed by their army: "The
Mozote slaughter" where people and especially childs were killed.

Perquin

In Poton language Perquin means Bases path or Path of coals fired.


This place is located in the Museum of the revolution in which are
located objects and images on the civil war in El Salvador. Also includes
a lookout, from where you can see some places of El Salvador and
Honduras.It is a town of cool climate, surrounded by coffee plantations
and lush pine forests; friendly and helpful people. After the Salvadorean
civil war, they have developed many tourist options, becoming a major
attraction north of Morazan.

San Fernando

This town is of Colonial origin. This place is the rio Negro, the Chorrern;
the diamond and the swallows located in river cane waterfalls. All of
these sites are in their natural state.
It has a pleasant climate, due to its height and picturesque pine forests,
cypress and oak around him. It have a huge variety of flora and fauna in
this place, thanks to its important natural reserves. In daily life, it offers
rural and peasant environment, determined by their farming activities.
The name of this town is clearly Spanish, in honor of the Catholic
monarchs Ferdinand II and Ferdinand V. The Spaniards recognize the
existence of this people in 1811 and mentioned that it was inhabited by
a small group of ladino people. Since its inception has been a place of
passage and to the people of Honduras, with which it has remained since
pre-Columbian times an important trade

Torola

Torola is a population of pre-Columbian origin, inhabited by indigenous


Lencas. In language giant squid is interpreted as Las tres Cabezas. On

Corinto

Its main attraction are its various workshops where are woven
hammocks in silk or cotton thread. Another site that stands out from this
population is its cemetery, which continues to draw the attention of all
who visit it, since the graves are carved in rock of talpetate; This is
possible since the adjacent hills are composed mostly of this material.

Guatajiagua

In Lenca language means Valley with crops of tobacco is famous for


the production of black pottery which is achieved through the help of a
natural dye that gives the black color to eat them them, pots, jars, etc.
This technique was inherited from their ancestors, Lencan. Also the
Association of indigenous Lencas kept alive the tradition of the dances of
Los Negritos and La Yeguita, which recalls the battles at the time of
the Spanish conquest.

This is a tourist circuit in the department of Morazan and is comprised of
the municipalities of Chilanga Yoloaiqun, Delicias de Concepcion,
Osicala, Gualococti, San Simon, San Isidro

Panoramic Circuit of

The name has been updated as Panoramic Circuit of the Lake of
Ilopango.It was because most of sights are near Lake Ilopango. This
circuit is composed of six municipalities in the southern part of Lake
Ilopango These are: Santiago Texacuangos, San Francisco Chinameca,
San Miguel Tepezontes, San Juan Tepezontes, San Emigdio and Paraiso
de Osorio.
Santiago Texacuangos: has a public square in which Pupusas are
always selling. This square is famous for the view you have of Lake
Ilopango.y can also find a variety of handicrafts.
San Francisco Chinameca specific on the Panamerican highway there
are many local food and typical. The most famous places are: the
restaurant "El Cerrito Pan" and ecoturistica The farm "La Casona", also

there are three gazebos, two for Lake Ilopango and one for the Bay of
Jiquilisco
In San Miguel Tepezontes is access to Lake Ilopango, which is a small
beach that has green Poza name. It is a beautiful tourist area where you
can go to bathe in the lake and there are many food sales and various
water sports such as boat ride, rowing, aquabike rides. or hiking in the
woods.
San JuanTepezontes you can visit the town and take a ride, visit the
