In todays competitive world, choosing a career is not an easy thing. It is because of the
availability of the large number of careers and courses that are available in the different colleges
and universities through-out the world. Thus, this competition level can not only result in
confusion but can also end up in mental frustration. (HORWITT, 2003)
Thus, the following essay includes a complete description about My (Aiman) Personal Career
Plan. A step by step guidance is explained with the help of the points like my ideal job, Self
Assessment, Gap Analysis, Preliminary Plan, Mentor Consultation and Implementation. I hope
that this detail information which is elaborated with the help of my personal examples will surely
help the reader to get full information regarding the given subject.

2. IDEAL JOB
Every individual aims for an ideal job that meets with his needs and abilities while working in a
comfortable environment in which he can give his best output. Thus, Ideal job is something that
focuses on an individual work interests, work motivators, personality- preferences of the working
environment, leader of that organization, as well as personal and professional values . (Faisal,

Thus, my ideal job is to be a P.R (Public Relation) manager in any of the reputed media/
advertising/marketing companies. It is a field that is concerned with maintaining public image
for high-profile organizations. (Parsons, 2003) Thus, in order to perform this job, I am
undertaking the course of Media marketing from U.C.T.I. Firstly; it will help me to understand
the issue relating to effective human computer interactions and develop interactive multimedia
applications. In addition to this, it will provide an opportunity to undertake a major project where
the acquired knowledge and research skills will be used to explore an aspect of media. (Dozier,
Grunig, 2002)

2.1 JOB DESCRIPTION

Public relations, as the name suggests, is all about managing an organization's reputation with the
public in general and clients in particular.

A public relations manager plays an important role in communicating the company's

policy.
He is responsible for organizing press conference, exhibitions and press tours.
He also plays an important role of improving the relation between the management and
the employees. (Bose, 2009)

Thus, I find this job quite interesting and challenging that encourages me to perform it with full
enthusiasm.

3. SELF ASSESSMENT
In Career planning self assessment is the process of gathering information about oneself in order
to make an informed career decision. (Elizabeth A. Lorenzen 1996. ) It helps in developing a
professional identity required for a chosen career. In an individual, it gives clarity to ones
thoughts by helping him/her to define his personal interests, preferred skills, work values,
educational aspirations and even helps to define an Individual Work Personality. Vern Johnson

I will also do my

personal self assessment from my Strengths and Weakness which are explained below.
3.1 STRENGTHS
Leadership Skills
Leadership is defined as a critical management skill and an ability to motivate the people
towards a common goal. (Elizabeth A. Lorenzen 1996.) I have performed many duties at
different level that highlights my leadership skills. For Example; I was the president of the
society of my High School (2004) and Presently I m also a Student Ambassador for Kazakhstan
in APIIT/ UCTI.

Communication Skills

Communication plays a very important role conveying an accurate idea to the listeners without
any hindrance/disturbance and vice versa. (John Fiske, 2002 I have been a Russian and English
debater for 4 yrs at my school and have performed the responsibility of Debate Judge for the
final year at my school.

Artistic Skill

Art is a color-full way of living a life. It can be in the form of singing, painting, dance etc. I love
to perform Belly Dance and in addition to this, I have also worked as a model for many
commercials. Recently, I was crowned as the Queen of APIIT/UCTI in 2008.

3.2 WEAKNESSES
Everyone in this world is not born perfect and neither me. I have some weakness which I am
going to explain in detail below.

Punctuality

One of my biggest weaknesses is punctuality. I generally post-pone my work to the last

minute and this practice is very unhealthy and a big hindrance in the path of success. It
increases the mental pressure and hence is very dangerous to health . (Brian Strachan, 2006).
Thus, I have to improve this weakness by being an active and a regular worker

Lack of Concentration

Secondly, I lose my focus on the assigned work very regularly and frequently. I divert my
mind from the work as soon as I m well familiar with it. This, weakness doesnt allow me to
be the master of that particular field.

4. GAP ANALYSIS
Gap Analysis is a technique of determining the steps that are required to be taken in order to
move from a current state to a desired future-state. (William J. Rothwell, Robert D. Jackson, 2005). This
technique of Gap analysis plays
of self assessment.

Factors to analyse gaps:(1) Lists of characteristic factors .Like attribute, competencies, performance levels of the present
situation (i.e. "what is")
(2) Cross-lists factors required to achieve the future objectives ("what should be")
(3) Highlights the 'gaps' that exist and need to be 'filled. (Rob Yeung, 2003)
So, now I would like to do my personal gap analysis. Firstly, I have still not completed my
studies so I have to work hard on my formal education in order to get a Good Division Degree
Certificate. Secondly, I dont have a good work experience in this field. A part time job and a
good internship in a reputed media organisation will play a very major role in this aspect. Thus,
these gaps need to be filled in order to reach the final destination.
5. PRELIMINARY PLAN
Preliminary Plan is a something that includes some steps/objectives in order to reach the main
goal. (BRIAN STRACHAN, 2006). In career plan also there are many steps that are required to be
taken in an effective manner in order to reach the final goal. So, my preliminary plan includes
Short term goal and Long Term goal and a budget plan which explained below.
5.1 SHORT TERM GOAL
Getting Exposure to the media life right after Graduation where I can learn and
practice my studied specialism.
Gaining a specialized and expertise Knowledge/Skills in the media Industry while
working at different jobs.
Going for Masters Degree in U.K
5.2 LONG TERM GOAL
To obtain a secure yet challenging job in U.S.A.
To be a P.R. manager for a multi-national reputed company like Adidas, Nike etc

Hence, the preliminary plan will play a major role in guiding me step by step about the current
progress and also about my next target that I have to achieve within the specific time period.
6. BUDJET PLAN
A career plan requires a proper budget plan. It includes a detailed economic figure which ensures
that the money invested in the career planning will not only be recovered easily but will be
profitable for the future life. (William J. Rothwell, Robert D. Jackson, 2005.)
Firstly, I will invest some money in order to get good education. So, for this purpose I am doing
my B.A (Hons) in Media Marketing from UCTI Malaysia. The overall annual expenditure is
about US $12,000 including miscellaneous expenditure. The course is overall of 3yrs so I will
spend approximately around $(12000* 36) = $48,000. Then my further plan is to complete my
Master Degree Programmee from Staffordshire U.K. This will be an approx 2 yr Programmee
that will overall cost me around U.S $40,000. After, this total of $88,000 for 6 yrs; I will try
refunding back this investment as early as possible. So, for this purpose I will try to work in any
of the MNC like CBS, NBC [U.S.A]. As per the statistics of the U.S Bureau of Labor, the
average salary of a public relations manager is $70,000 per year. However, depending upon
one's experience and the type of organization one is working with, a public relations manager
may earn as much as $250,000 per year. (Bose, 2009) However, it will include many steps for
example my first mission will be to enter these MNC of USA; Secondly I will try my level best
to work as assistant for a PR and Finally accomplishing myself as a PR manager. This is however
explained in detail with the following Excel Diagram that also elaborates upon Savings i.e.
Investment of 6yrs Refund of 6 yrs.

7. MENTOR CONSULTATION
A Mentor performs a professional activity, a trusted relationship and a meaningful commitment
that acts as guidance for the students so that they could develop to their best . (Susan E. Metros
and Catherine Yang, 2006) Thus, every student has his/her personal mentor for an overall
development.
My mentor is my mom (Name) was also working as a PR for serious communications in
Kazakhstan. Being an educated and open minded lady she really understands me and encourages
me to the best and She is the one from whom I developed my communication skills. Thus, I can
say that my mother really played a very important role in career selection, planning and its
development.

8. IMPLIMENTATION
Implementation means to put a plan into action. It is the most important part of the purposed plan
because it guarantees that the practical steps will be carried out in a proper sequence in order to
reach the main career objective i.e. the Goal. (Strachan, 2006)
Thus, in order to achieve my goal I have to work on weakness like punctuality, and lack of
concentration as soon as possible. Both of the things need a good self-motivation and regular
practice for my improvement. In addition to this, I will not leave any chance that allows me to
enter the field of media or marketing. This will help me to gain working experience and a deep
understanding of the field before even I complete my Graduation.

9. CONCLUSION
In conclusion I will like to say that this assignment helped me to develop my personality through
better mode of Self-Awareness; and I will put my level best effort in turning this Personal plan
to a Practical-Reality.
