Parallel Circuits: Current & Voltage

This document discusses investigating current and voltage in parallel circuits. For current, students measure the amperage at different points in a series circuit and find that in a parallel circuit, the current remains the same in each branch. For voltage, students set up a parallel circuit and measure the voltage before and after a bulb, finding that the voltage remains the same throughout a parallel circuit, unlike in a series circuit where it decreases.

Parallel Circuits - Current

In this lesson you will investigate the current and voltage in parallel circuits to
understand the advantages they have. First, your teacher will measure the current at
various points in a series circuit.

A1 = ________ Amps
A2 = ________ Amps
A3 = ________ Amps
A4 = ________ Amps

What have you found out about the current in a parallel circuit?

(Remember to compare your results to your findings for your series circuits)

What would happen to the current on ammeter A2 if another bulb

was added to that branch? Verify practically.

Parallel Circuits - Voltage

In this lesson you will investigate the current and voltage in parallel circuits to
understand the advantages they have. To do this you will need to set up a parallel
circuit. Start by constructing this circuit:

Next, you will need to measure the voltage in different places in the circuit. To do this,
you need to place the voltmeter in the circuit at each of the places shown on this
diagram (once before the bulb, once after). Record the readings on your voltmeter.

V1 = ________ Volts
V2 = ________ Volts
V3 = ________ Volts
