Working Examples
I demonstrated my exceptional problem solving skills in the following specific
situation:
Describe the situation in as much detail as possible:
During my time as an IT helpdesk for a retail company, I encountered an issue
wherein both master and backup controllers (register servers) were unable to
communicate to the other registers, causing all POS to not function at all an hour
before store opening. Not resolving this issue in a timely manner will cause a delay
of sales in the store itself.
Describe what specific actions you took in this situation:
After several application and ping tests and checking of router and switch
connections, it was determined that the controllers were connected in the wrong
switch port by the technician who replaced the old store routers and switches with a
new ones, who were able to run connection tests successfully but unable to test
functionality of other registers in regards to the controllers
What was the outcome?
Luckily with the help of the store manager who has a little background in network
connections, I instructed the SM over the phone on which switch to connect the
controllers into and after synchronization, both controllers went online just in time
before opening. Saving the store money for a tech. dispatch.
I demonstrated my commitment to customer service by going over-and-above
in the following specific situation:
Describe the situation in as much detail as possible:
An impending ticket that was opened by one of the managers breached its SLA
(ticket was opened for 3 months and manager refused to believe other agents who
tried explaining to the manager the situation) because the manager insists that the
ticket should not be closed if proven that the main software that runs one of the
stores main department will be constantly functional. (the computers itself
indicated in the ticket had a bad history of bad configurations but was totally fixed
by the application department, which the manager refuses to believe)
Describe what specific actions you took in this situation:
Owning responsibility in the ticket, I spoke to the manager and carefully showed that
all applications are running fine now after several tests. Ensuring the manager that
immediate action will be taken if proven again that the software failed to function
What was the outcome?
Successfully convinced the manager and ticket (longest SLA in all the tickets in
queue) was finally closed.
