What can we call group of such living beings?
Today we are going to study about the body shape of birds.
Resources
Pictures of birds, paper plane.
Objectives:
Teaching Strategies
- Asking questions
- Demonstration
_To give them knowledge about the special shape which
helps in flying.
-To educate them regarding certain shapes which can float
in air.
Introduction of Lesson (20 25 mins)
Teacher will show any bird toy to the students or picture of
bird and ask to the students by pointing towards its body
parts what are these?
Main activity :
Student will give answer it is head, neck, tail, etc.
Teacher will tell about body parts and their function.
Teacher will tell them birds do not have teeth, actually they
have beak .
Teacher teacher will explain about its shape .it is boat
shape that is narrow or pointed in front wide in centre .
- Group discussions.
Classroom Structure (Collaborative Learning,
Individual Learning) and Main activities.
Teacher can show to the students by performing an
activity in which teacher can through a paper in the
air and wait until it come down it will not go far and
after it teacher can through an aeroplane made up of
paper or cone made of paper it will definitely go far
from that paper now teacher will explain that around
us there are air and things which are narrow in front
can make space for them(can cut air) easily, and can
move easily.

Introduction and Main activity : of Lesson (20 25 mins)
Teacher will explain second modification of its body for
flying.
Teacher will explain we all have bones like that birds also
have bones but they have hollow bones, so their body
weight will also be very less and light weight things
compare to heavy, can fly easily.
Third modification is strong flight muscles which has
capacity to move feather up and down .
Tail helps in changing direction by tilting it.
- Group discussions.
Classroom Structure (Collaborative Learning,
Individual Learning) and Main activities.
Group discussion: After showing picture of bones
of human and birds ask them to make a model of
bones.
Using the clay, cardboard and
toothpicks make a model of each bone.
( human bone put red clay in center and for birds
bone scrape out clay from the center to show hollow
bones)

Introduction of Lesson (20 25 mins)
Have you ever seen any feather on ground?
then, may be u observed sometimes it was long and
sometimes very short feather you observed sometimes it
was very short?
that means all feathers are not of same type, so today
we will learn types of feathers.
Main activity:
Teacher will show any pic./ real of feathers if possible to
the students and explain about types of feather
1. flight feathers
2. down feathers
3. body feathers.
- Group discussions.
Classroom Structure (Collaborative Learning,
Individual Learning) and Main activities.
Group discussion: After showing picture / real
feathers ask them to note down the difference
between them.
EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WINGS AND
FEATHERS.
Learning Outcome (5mins.)
H.W.
All the students will be able to explain about the feathers of the bird
Most students will be able to differentiate feathers
Few students will be able to explain between feathers and wingsof the bird.
Read the lesson in the textbook.
TEACHERS NOTE:
Feather
1.
Feathers
maintain
the
temperature of body and keep
it warm in winter.
2.
Feathers are the soft that
almost completely cover full
body of birds.
3.
The feathers give the bird its
color.
Wings
1.
The wings are the part of
the body that make the bird
fly and control the speed
and direction.
2.
The wings also contain
muscle and bone .

-To educate them regarding bones which help them float
in air.
Introduction of Lesson (20 25 mins)
Have each student hold a strip of copy paper
approximately 1 inch wide and 11 inches long between the
thumb and index finger. Blow over the top of the paper and
watch as the paper is lifted up. Blowing makes the air rush
over the paper. The pressure above the paper is reduced
and the greater pressure from below lifts it up. This is
called lift and is similar to the force that lifts a birds wings
as they move through the air.
- Group discussions.
Classroom Structure (Collaborative Learning,
Individual Learning) and Main activities.
Group discussion: After showing video 2
Ask them to explain about upstroke and down
stroke
( When the wings move up wards and backwards
the movement is called upstroke.
When wings move downwards and forward the
movement of the wings is called downwards stroke
movement)
Main activity:
Teacher will show video 2 and ask question with students
and give brief explanation on the video
Learning Outcome (5mins.)
H.W.
All the students will be able to explain factors helping flight in bird
Most students will be able to differentiate between strokes movement in birds

Resources
Video/ pictures on flightless birds. and Aquatic birds
Objectives:
Teaching Strategies
- Asking questions
- Demonstration
_To give them knowledge about
flightless birds.
- To correct them about the fact that
bird does not mean only that community
which can fly, but can be aquatic too .
Introduction of Lesson (20 25 mins)
After showing some pics
Teacher will declare the topic by
clearing the fact that some birds cannot
fly and we call them flightless birds.
Today we will learn about flight less
birds.
Main activity:
Teacher will show video 2 and ask
question with students and give brief
explanation on the video
- Group discussions.
Classroom Structure (Collaborative Learning, Individual Learning)
and Main activities.
Group discussion: After showing video
Reason why some birds cant fly?
The main reasons involve the feathers and the skeleton. Special
feathers are required for flight and the "Flightless Birds" have none
of these special feathers(flight feathers). They also have much
heavier blood vessels to transfer blood and oxygen to the limbs.
Aquatic birds- The term water bird or aquatic bird is used to refer to
birds that live on or around water.
Aquatic birds have oil glands to keep their feathers water proof. Ex.
Ducks, Swan s ,Gulls, pelicans and cranes
They have webbed toes to swim.
Learning Outcome (5mins.)
H.W.
All the students will be able to explain factors effecting flightless bird
Most students will be able to differentiate between flightless birds and aquatic birds.
Few students will be able to e differentiate between flightless birds and flying birds.

H.W.
Read the lesson in the textbook.
Classroom Structure (Collaborative Learning,
Individual Learning) and Main activities.
Group discussion: After showing video /pic
Teacher will show pic. of different types of nest.
A bird nest is the spot in which a bird lays and
incubates its eggs and raises its young.
For some species, a nest is simply a shallow depression
made in sand; for others, it is the knot-hole left by a
broken branch, a burrow dug into the ground, a
chamber drilled into a tree, an enormous rotting pile
of vegetation and earth, a shelf made of dried saliva or
a mud dome with an entrance tunnel.
So, bird nest is its home, place of the nest is decided
by the pair of the bird, then they start collecting the
construction material at construction site and finally
make a sweet home for their family.
