Task Analysis for Creating a Class in Class Dojo

1. Open Web Browser (I will be using Google Chrome).


2. Type URL in address area (www.classdojo.com).
3. Click on the Sign Up link.
4. Click on Teacher
5. Complete the teacher signup with name, email, and password
6. Join your school
7. Click on Add a class
8. Give the class a name
9. Select grade level
10. Type each student’s name on the notebook paper graphic or copy/paste from
Word or Excel document
11. When finished, click on Done Adding Students
12. Click Next
13. Print the ClassDojo for parents
14. Click Next and Done with Invites
15. Edit and add Positive Behaviors
16. Edit and add Negative Behaviors
17. To give positive or negative points, click on a student’s name.
18. Select the appropriate behavior and click.
19. Select Groups
20. Create groups based on seating charts or learning teams in your classroom.
21. Begin using ClassDojo

Step Action Narration


1 (Slowly light up to title Ever heard of ClassDojo? It is a great classroom
screen) management app for the iPad or software for the
computer. Let’s set it up and get started!
2 Open Google Chrome First, open the web browser that you prefer. I
always use Google Chrome.
3 Click in the address bar When the internet finally loads, you know it takes
a while sometimes, especially at school, click in
the address bar. Make sure everything in the
address bar is highlighted.
4 Type in URL Type www.classdojo.com and hit enter. This will
take you directly to the website as long as you
type it right!
5 Click on Sign Up link, or If you do not have an account already set up, click
click login if you already on the blue sign up button. If you already have an
have an account account, just sign in and take a bathroom break
while everyone else sets up an account or stroll
around to make sure everyone is caught up.
6 Click on teacher to sign up Once you have clicked on Sign Up, click on teacher
– that ‘s what you are. This will take you to a
screen where you will give all kinds of personal
information.
7 Enter name, email Go ahead and enter your first and last name, email
address, and a password address, and password that you want to use from
now to eternity! Click join.
8 Find and join your school Find your school in the list and join the host of
other teachers at your school who already use
ClassDojo. Click join.
9 Click on Add a class Next, click Add a class. This is where you can get
creative with your naming.
10 Type a name for the class I am going to call my class Cabbell’s Convicts, and
for the record, I will add last year’s students (real
names will be changed, of course).
11 Select the grade level From the drop down menu, click your grade level
12 Enter each students name Now, this is the fun part. You can physically type
on the notebook paper each student’s name onto the notebook paper
graphic graphic like this, or you can import a class list. If
you are typing each name, do it now.
13 Or, click on Copy/Paste If you have a class list to import, follow these
from Word or Excel procedures. Click on Copy/Paste from either
Word or Excel. Find the file you are importing.
14 Import the file Click on import file…tada there are the names…
easy peasy pumpkin squeezy.
15 Click on done adding Finally, everyone can click on Done Adding
students Students when finished.
16 Click next Click next to download PDF instructions so
parents can join you on ClassDojo.
17 Print the PDF for parents Print the PDF for each student. You know how to
print, right?
18 Click Next and Done with Close the PDFs, click Next, and then click Done
Invites with Invites. Now you can finish setting up Dojo.
19 Edit positive behaviors This is where you will input the positive behaviors
already there that you expect for students. You can edit a
behavior that is already there. To do that, click on
edit and type the expected behavior.
20 Add positive behaviors If there are more behaviors you want to add, click
on Add behavior. Type in the desired behavior.
For example, I just want my kids to be nice to each
other, so I will type, “Be Kind.”
21 Click on Negative When you have finished with the positive
behaviors, click on negative behaviors. These are
the behaviors that need correcting.
22 Edit negative behaviors Again, you can edit any behaviors that are already
already there listed.
23 Add negative behaviors Like the positive behaviors, add any negative
behaviors that you consistently observe in your
classroom. I will add stealing – I can’t keep candy
in my bucket!
24 Click on a student’s name Now, you are ready to begin using Dojo, you can
to give points click on a student’s name to give them a positive
point or a negative point.
25 Select a behavior When you select a behavior, there are different
sounds that represent positive and negative…try
it!
26 Select Groups Finally, there is one last optional setup. If you
would like to reward groups of students by
seating chart or learning teams that may work
together, you can create groups. First, click on
groups.
27 Create groups Give the group a name…I am grouping mine by
how they sit in class. That way, I can reward table
groups when they show exceptional behavior…
not!
28 Select students to add to After giving your groups names, select the
groups students to join the groups. Now you can give
points to whole groups and not have to click so
many individual names.
29 Show final screen When it is time to use Dojo, this is what your
screen will look like. You are ready to begin.
