Year of Mercy
The Spiritual Works of Mercy have long been a part of the
Christian tradition, appearing in the works of theologians
and spiritual writers throughout history. Just as Jesus
attended to the spiritual well-being of those he ministered to, these Spiritual Works of Mercy guide us to "help
our neighbor in their spiritual needs."
Instructing the Ignorant
Learn about our faith and be open to talking with others
about our beliefs. There is always something more to discover about our faith.
Go on a service trip or short term mission trip. No time?
Donate to support someone on their service trip.
Volunteer to help with religious education programs at
your parish.
Invite someone to go to Mass with you this weekend.
Know your faith! Read through the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults to find out more about the
Catholic faith and how to live it.

From the St. Columba bulletin dated January 24,
1965:
S.O.S...to all parishioners and especially to those who use the parish
facilities regularly. Our gas and
electric bill for last month was over
$300.00. PLEASE burn lights only when
necessary (and only as many as necessary.) Turn off all lights, heaters
and exhaust fans before leaving the
building. DO NOT leave heaters on
when doors or windows are wide open.
Critical areas the rest rooms in
the hall and church; classrooms
during public school catechism sessions. And children paper is being
wasted in great quantities in the
rest rooms. Are you a wastrell? Let
every parishioner, young and old, be
a custodian of our fine parish
plant. Be proud of it. Take care of
it. Wasting is stealing, and in this
case from God.
