Support the Socialist Worker appeal
This branch notes:
1. That the mainstream media is rarely on the side of the working class. Their coverage
of strikes, trade union protests, anti-racist or anti war issues is either unbalanced or
non-existent.
2. That Socialist Worker provides consistent and extensive coverage of the fightback
against austerity and international working class struggle. The paper has covered
strikes that others have ignored, such as important victories like the Glasgow
Homelessness Caseworkers. It has exposed the racism of anti-immigrant
propaganda and the media bias against the migrant crisis.
3. That the paper receives no funding from big business advertising and is sustained
solely by sales and the contributions of trade unionists and campaigners that it
serves.
4. That Socialist Worker is a forum for debate within the movement and invites
contributions from a range of activists. It enables trade unionists to get involved in
building practical solidarity.
This branch believes:
1. A voice such as the one provided by Socialist Worker is more important than ever.
We need to remind ourselves that politics can be shaped by ordinary people; it is not
just about what happens in Westminster.
2. A newspaper free from the influence of big business, media moguls and politicians is
valuable to workers.
3. That Socialist Worker will be one of the few newspapers that will be campaigning for
people to support the fights of workers against both this government and the next
one.
4. That we need to support Socialist Workers present financial appeal to ensure it can
continue to do the job of publicising the issues which matter to us and stimulating
debate.
