Model for the Youth
Disciplined, religious, and patriotic. Dr. Rizal possessed this things that
each students must have. In todays generation, the youth value more on
the things that give them pleasure, they do not think about other people and
the things that could help the society. In contrast Dr. Rizal was a man for
others and in fact he died serving his country. This was done because of he
had discipline, he had faith to his God and he was patriotic throughout his
life.
Dr. Rizal is a disciplined man in many ways, but for me his discipline in
his studies is the most inspiring. Starting when he was still a kid until he
graduated and even when he was already a practicing ophthalmologist, he
showed that learning does not end in school. Moreover, by studying different
subjects, like music, art, martial arts, fencing, linguistics, science, literature
and etc., he showed that one should never get tired of learning. Honestly, for
me it is quite impossible to learn so many stuff in one day, or one week, or
even one month. But Dr. Rizal showed the discipline of time management,
that he was able to learn different things in a span of weeks or months. Also,
thru learning so many stuff, he showed his discipline in studying, and he
showed that if someone is focused and determined to learn a thing then he
will be able to learn it and do it, even though, in nature he is not good at it.
This is evidenced by the fact that Dr. Rizal learned music even though he
know for himself that he is not born a musician. All of this things will not be
accomplished by Dr. Rizal if he was not a man of discipline. Thus he showed
to us, and especially to me, that discipline is a key to learning and success in
studies.
Faith to God is a part of the life of Dr. Rizal that is most tested. The
trials that he faced each day in his mission to liberate his fellowmen, is a
strong evidence that he was tested and still remained in his faith to God.
Moreover, despite the fact that he had learned so many stuff about the world
that could had disproved the existence of a God, he never lose his faith.
Even in times when he has to choose between his religion and a woman, he
chose his religion even though it means he would lose the woman he loved.
Such conviction only shows that Dr. Rizal has so much faith to God. Every
student should have the same faith to God. That despite the trials, despite
the failures, they would still choose to believe that God has a purpose for
everything and that they would should still continue to believe in Him.
Our national hero, would not be called a hero if in fact he had no
patriotism in his blood. Dr. Rizal showed his love for his country by doing all
means that he can do to liberate his oppressed people. He left his family in
the Philippines just pursue his secret mission in Europe. He endured pain,
emotionally and physically, just to accomplish what he think is best for his
fellowmen. He fought for the right even though that means death to him. Dr.
Rizals whole life is a testament to patriotism. For a student like me, I know I
would never achieved such likeness, but I know I could strive hard and do
my best so that I could do things which could help this country and which
can also liberate the people of this country from the ever dominating force of
poverty.
The life of Dr. Jose Protacio Mercado Rizal Alonzo y Realonda is model
for the youth to follow. A model that if followed by many youth, would be
able to change the current status of this country. A model that could bring us
to another level and a model that is peaceful in its way in achieving its
greater goal. Dr. Rizal showed the ideal youth. Throughout his life he showed
how the youth can be of use to its country. And so through following his
good footsteps the youth would be able to turn the table of fortunes in favor
of our country.
