Metropolis

By: Zackery Marrison

JESS, NO! Said Daniel as Jessica fell through the old worn floor. Look, this
all started in a less empty place than meets the eye, the Moon. There were
these scientists that were excavating certain craters in search for these
valuable and highly radioactive stones. These stones were known as Element
115, one of the most rare space ores to ever strike the Earths atmosphere.
Long story short, these rocks had infected 98% of the Earths population
turning them into undead beasts.
Jessica fell through the 8th story of a bridge leading in between two
buildings as she tried to run across, the others stared at the hanging girl.
GET HER UP HERE NOW! Demanded Daniel
Alex shed a tear of fear as he stared at the glowing crimson splattered on the
floor. Daniel gaped in horror as he saw the metal bar impaling the now silent
and scared girl.
D. Daniel? Just. try, try to get me off. Whispered Jessica
Daniel, with no hesitation tore of his sleeve and tried to yank off his injured
sister.
Daniel, its too late. We have to go. Said Rodger in a choked out voice

Daniel kept tugging, it was apparent that numerous zombies were on the
ground below the drop, waiting for their next meal. He knew that it would be
risky in both lights, he could let her die, or save her and take the chance of
her turning. Daniel gave his last tug.
He trembled as Jessicas stomach left a red stain on the torn blue sleeve
used to bandage her wound. She smiled faintly at her brother.
Thanks for not leaving me.
Daniel saw the fiery spirit fading as she walked along. The building was tight
and narrow, so finding the exit was somewhat hard to do with the abundance
of identical corridors. As the group came to a red door labeled (STAIRWELL)
they rejoiced in silence with a sigh of relief here and there.
To their dismay, upon opening the door they heard various groans. In the
now apparent situation of being cornered there was nowhere else to go but
up.
"Hey, look at the window there. Looks like a sign." Said Alex quickly
He was right, a sign had collapsed on the 6th floor.
"Maybe if we jump down, we can use it as a bridge to that small building
down there?"
Daniel slowly handed Jessica to Rodger and kicked in the window. The groans
became louder. Daniel loosened one backpack strap and hung it around a

sturdy piece of window frame like a necklace, and used it as a foot hold to
get down without slipping. He slowly climbed down to the next window. He
dropped the last floor to the billboard and signaled the others to come down.
First Rodger dropped down Jessica to Daniel.
Alex tried to climb down slowly but he heard the clanging of the undead on
the door to the stair well and slipped, pulling the backpack down and pulling
it off of the frame, it dropped 2 stories to the sign below. Alex, sighing with
relief landed on the 7th story window sill and dropped in silence. Rodger now
unable to see a safe way down tried to sit down on the ledge and climb down
using his own body strength to lower himself to the 7th floor, but his weary
arms dropped him to the ledge and he fell backwards the last story, Alex
tended to Rodger as Daniel checked the roof of the small building. There was
a door near the air vent.
"Lets check if we can get to the street, if not we did just lure the entire
building to the top floor of this building." Said Daniel with darting eyes,
searching for an opening.
"I'm not going back in there, I'm done with breaking windows to go places
too!" Exclaimed Alex with a scowl.
Daniel chuckled at the young boys worry. Daniel tried the door. Locked,
Daniel kicked the door, once... twice, nothing. Jessica smiled and slowly dug
in her pocket, her hand scanning the deep crevasses. She pulled out a bobby

pin and a paper clip, just your average lock pick kit. As Jessica faintly moved
the pin a wheeze was heard and she slumped to catch a breath or two.
"In a few more seconds it will be (Cough) ...... done."
In a few flicks the door handle turned and it creaked open.
"Wow.. its a."
"Toy store?" Said Daniel and Rodger simultaneously.
Daniel set Jessica against the wall and untied the sleeve, he pulled out some
thread and needle, some bandages and alcohol, and a Injection of morphine.
As Daniel unbuttoned the stomach of Jessica's shirt and cleaned the wound
with the alcohol and the dirty sleeve, he then used the morphine in her spine
and began to sew the wound, Jessica started to tear up as the wound
throbbed and the skin was pierced and stretched by the needle. Daniel could
see her biting her lip and tried to speed up the process, after he finished her
stomach he turned her around and began to sew her back. She yelped and
tried to hold back tears. Daniels face was white as a ghost as he could just
imagine her sorrow just by the sheer sight. After bandaging her up and
getting her to her feet the tension ceased.
"Lets just go." Said Daniel
He limped Jessica over to the door where he saw a clear street and began to
turn the door handle. (BEEP BEEP BEEP) Daniel became wide eyed as he
noticed he had tripped the security alarm.

" NO NO NO NO!" Exclaimed Alex in a panic.

Loud footsteps could be heard shuffling down the street toward them. They
readied their guns as the horde came closer. Daniel fired his musket and
Rodger shot two of the beasts in the chest pushing them to the ground. Alex
hit one in the head with his HS10 and shot the group with multiple shots.
Daniel had gotten surrounded and had to hit them with the stock of his
musket, Daniel got knocked back into a zombie and he was all but dead.
(BOOM) Daniel turned to see the now dead body. He looked at the others who
were fighting and then at the barrel of the flint lock that Jessica was holding.
"The injection must be workin eh?" Said Jessica with a wide smile
Then there was silence. The four members sat there looking at each other,
the smiled and strutted down the street toward the large, forest. Their next
location.
