NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY REPORT
28.03.2015
National Science day is celebrated in India every year on 28 th February to mark the
discovery of Raman Effect by Indian Physicist Sir Chandrashekhar Venkata Raman
on 28th February 1928 .He was awarded nobel prize in Physics in 1930 for his
discovery .The day is celebrated to widely spread the message about significance of
scientific appplications in the daily life of people, to popularize science and
technology, to give an opportunity to the scientific minded citizens in country, to
commmemorate the legacy of Sir C.V.Raman.
Every year there is a separate theme of science day. Theme for National Science Day
2015 is Science for nation building .To foster scientific temper in the students
science activities were performed through out the month of February during morning
assembly.
CLASS WISE ACTIVITIES
During first week various activities were demonstrated by students of VIII A. On first
day they presented an activity on how to make an electromagnet. They showed how
to make it using simple objects from our environment. Next day they performed an
activity telling us how to make a kaleidoscope which was invented by Sir David
Brewster in 1815. They also made students as well as Principal Madam to see
beautiful designs in it.
The students of VIIIB also demonstrated an activity on Magic Ink. They prepared it
using alcohol, phenolphthelene and ammonium hydroxide.
The students of VIIIC performed various activities in the last week of celebration of
science day. They displayed an activity on Air Pressure. They also presented an
activity on Displacement reaction. Lastly they demonstrated through an
experiment presence of starch in food items
HOUSE WISE ACTIVITIES.
On 4th February Tagore house showed a chemical reaction between acetic acid and
sodium hydrogen carbonate creating a fizz which inflated a balloon.
On 5th February Ashoka house demonstrated an activity on how to measure blood
pressure using a Sphygmomanometer .
On 11th February an activity was performed by Shivaji house which was based on
flow of air between the two balloons kept inflated at different pressures.
On 18th February Tagore house presented an activity which showed the functioning
of different devices aeroplane, mobile, television and hot air balloon on the
principles of Physics and Chemistry.
On 24th February Raman house gave information about the application of
Biotechnology in various fields particularly GM (genetically modified) crops and
forensic science.
On 26th February an informative play was performed by the students of Ashoka
house on Swine Flue.
In this they told about its causes, effects , precautions and preventions through a
teleplay. It was a beautiful activity appreciated by everyone as it was a current burning
issue.
PRIMARY SECTION
Some interesting activities were also performed by Primary section students.
One activity was based on static electricity caused by rubbing the balloons against the
woolen fabric on human hair.
Another activity were performed in which through a simple test they demostrated how
to check the purity of milk or ghee.It was indeed a good activity on food adulteration.
In the same manner students demonstrated an activity on erruption of a volcano
using detergent, vinegar etc. It was worth appreciating.
On the concluding day i.e. on 28th February a very informative Science Programme
was conducted in the form of lectures , quiz, science puzzles and riddles etc.
The programme was a great success due to the joint efforts of all science teachers Mr
M K Batra, Mr K C Verma, Mrs Champa Negi, Mrs Shalini Masoan, Ms Anupama, Mrs
Sheela Saraswat, Mrs Rekha Semwal along with Music, Drawing and SUPW teachers
under the convenorship of Mrs Sadhna Duseja (PGT Bio) who was guided and
motivated by worthy Principal madam Dr. Charu Sharma.
