APP modified plain finished bituminous membrane
Product
Description
Uses
Characteristics /
Advantages
This type of membrane is manufactured by modifying premium grade asphalts with
non woven polyester reinforcements to improve the overall weatherability of the
membrane. These type of membranes show tremendous strength, elasticity and
weatherability. This membrane is coated with a proprietary blend of asphalt and
atactic poly propylene which provides an efficient mode of application by heat
welding.
It is used as waterproofing /damproofing membrane for protection of various
substrates in wide range of applications.
Medium to large roof slabs ( domestic, commercial and industrial)
Basements and raft slabs
Swimming Pools
Roof Gardens
Underground car parks etc.
Bridges & Tunnels.
Can be handled in extreme cold temperatures without cracking or shattering
Can be handled in warmer temperatures without softening to the point where it
begins to flow
Requires bituminous / water based before laying of membrane
Impermeable membrane with very little water absorption
Easy to fix and lay with a gas torch
Overlaps to be provided minimum 100mm
Excellent flexibility
Excellent water tightness
High tensile strength, tear and puncture resistant
Capable of withstanding thermal and structural stresses
Does not undergo early aging and hence is a highly durable membrane if laid
properly as per specification
Available in plain finish
Screed recommended with Sikacim / Sika Plastocrete Super after applying a
layer of primer and sand sprinkling and allowing it to dry. This improves the UV
ray stability of the membrane also
Alternatively can be over coated with two coats of Sika Raingard acrylic based
single component white coating system for obtaining cooling effect incase
screeding is not to be done. This also improves UV ray stability of the
membrane

Application
Instructions
Application Method /
Tools
Application procedure may vary slightly depending upon site conditions. However
given below are general guidelines.
Apply bituminous / water based primer to a clean, smooth and dry surface by brush,
roller or spray. Allow the primer to dry to become tack free. Unroll and align and re
roll correctly before torching. Overlaps should be minimum 100mm.Use gas burner
to heat the substrate and thermo fusible film on the underside on lower face of
membrane. When the thermo- fusible film melts after torching, the membrane is
ready to stick. Roll forward and press firmly against the substrate to bond. Heat
both the overlaps and use the round tipped trowel heating the same to smoothen
and press into seam. Side overlaps should be a minimum of 100 mm and end
overlaps 150 mm
Construction
All angles and abutments should be sealed with extra care to ensure full bondage.
The edges should be sealed well into the grooves.
The membrane should be protected from getting damaged due to ongoing site
activities and during backfilling either by cement sand plaster or other suitable
methods using Sikacim / Sika Plastocrete Super. Before laying the screed apply a
layer of the same primer and sprinkle sand for obtaining shear key and allow it to
dry completely. This not only improves the UV ray stability of the membrane but also
provides better bonding.
Alternatively apply two coats of Sika Raingard acrylic based single component
white coating system for obtaining cooling effect and also to improve the UV ray
stability of the membrane
