Objective.
1. To identify the types of active and passive fire protection system installed in the
building visited.
Problem statement.
Determine the rational behind the installation of such equipment and establish
whether it is adequate, excessive, or insufficient as per requirement of Local Building ByLaw and code of practice.
Information of place.
Place visited : Checkers Hypermarket Sdn Bhd (Head Quarters)
Date visited : 10 march 2015
Time visited : 10.30 a.m. 11.30a.m.

Key: Full are hypermarket: 180ft *180ft.
Red line means fire resistance door.
Red oblong shape means fire hose reel = 5 location placed.

Sprinkler available: Rental shop = 1 each.


Cashier/lobby = 24 sprinkler.
Supermarket = 112 sprinkler.
Wet market = 1 fire extinguisher and fire hose.
Storage = 70 sprinkler.
Based on tenth schedule.

Place category: (v)shop, (2)single storey, (d)over 2000sq. m


Extinguishing system note 2: AG (Automatic sprinkler and hose reel)
Fire alarm system note 3: 2 (Manual electrical fire alarm system)
Emergency lighting note 4: a (signal point unit)
Minimum quantity of water storage required for hose reel and fire hydrant
installations in building: over 929 sq. m(36400litre)

All requirement is almost same with Selangor Uniform Building By-Law 1986.
Discussion.
Is it the placed visited follow the rule of state rule or UBBL Selangor fire system rule?
Based on criteria and requirement UBBL Selangor the Checker Hypermarket is followed the
rule, because based on tenth schedule the automatic sprinkler available in shop, have 4
location fire hose reel, and manual electrical fire alarm system. If you can see at the
description the of sprinkler of supermarket part is more than storage but the storage area is
more larger than supermarket area. Why this situation is happen. Because at the storage the
sprinkler is used high pressure sprinkler to cover more large area. Based on diameter of pipe
of sprinkler at storage is large than pipe of sprinkler of supermarket.
Actice system.
1. Sprinkler.
2. Fire extinguisher.
3. Fire hose reel.
Active system means to fight or to make the fire is gone.
Passive system.
1. Fire resistance door.
Passive system is prevent or slow the fire growth.
