1. International Humanitarian Award
'THE ONE' is the first international humanitarian award launched by Rotary International
District 3450. This award aims to find and honor the unsung heroes who truly embodies
Rotary motto Service Above Self. This was done by accessing the powerful Rotary
network of over 1.2 million people. As signified by the Rotary motto, Rotary's main
objective is service in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world.Our
Managing Trustee, Mrs. Shruti A. Shroff was selected as one of the five finalists for the
"THE ONE" Award of Rotary International District 3450 in June 2012 and was honored
at a a function in Hong Kong.
2. The Times of India Social Impact Awards
Shroffs Foundation Trust (SFT) was conferred The Times of India Social Impact Awards
in the category of LIVELIHOODS in recognition of its outstanding work in watershed
development, improved agripractices, health services and BPO training, especially in
the tribal area of Chhota Udepur in October 2011.

WHAT WE DO
CENTRES :
1. Chhota Udepur Center
Shroffs Foundation Trust has been implementing various projects in Chhota Udepur area to
address issues related to poverty reduction, income generation, water, health, education and
community development since many years. During the year achievements as follows:
Project Sunshine one of the most successful programs which is being implemented since
2009 has helped increase their income many fold.

24,179 BPL farmers have benefited through the program by opting for maize,
tuver or cotton crops under the program.
9171 farmers also received training.
21,179 farmers produced 2,32,96,900 kg of maize fetching Rs. 10/- per kg.
2000 farmers produced about 6.5 quintal cotton per acre
1000 farmers are estimated to produce 2.3 quintal of tuver per acre. The program
Five year Wadi project is being implemented since 2008 covering 222 farmers. It aims to
double the income, introduce inter cropping, prevent forced migration and increase general
level of education among the community. Introduction of pot irrigation system has reduced
the mortality rate of the mango plants. During the year 3400 pots were distributed in 170
wadis.
Livelihood Enhancement Team, a three year project initiated in 2011 in this area trains
and links people connected with forestry to eco-friendly income generation activities by
organizing them in to Self Help Groups. During the year 124 new SHGs were formed in 62
villages. 351 members of 33 SHGs from 22 villages were trained in capacity building and
skill training. Of these, 48 groups have already started various businesses activities. 4072
people participated in medical camps organized in 34 villages.
Jute Diversification Program funded by National Jute Board, Ministry of Textiles, Govt.
of India, aims to improve economic status of rural women through skill development
resulting in economic independence. In all 120 women belonging to 12 SHGs in Chhota
Udepur block were trained.
Under Watershed Development and Group Well program, 29 Check Dams, 17 Pacca
Nalas and 405 Gully Plugs were constructed to increase water table of 73 irrigation wells.
This will make additional 209 acres of land cultivable. 40,000 saplings were planted during
monsoon. 50 Rooftop Rain Water Tanks were also constructed.
Protecting Child's Rights project funded by IKEA -UNICEF aims to stop child labor and
to ensure that all the children between the age of 3 to 14 yrs are admitted to schools. The
project is being implemented in 143 villages of Chhota Udepur. During the year, 4 layer child
protection committees were formed. Parents were made aware of importance of education
and were linked to additional income generation activities and government schemes. 38
dropout children from 6 villages were admitted to special training program.
10 entrepreneurs were trained to use modern farm equipment. under Agro Tool BankEntrepreneurs program funded by Tribal Sub Plan office Chhota Udepur. It would help in
saving time and reduce drudgery Their total income during the year, was Rs. 6,49,877/-.
Under Agri mechanization program, 7 Tribal Farmers Organizations (TFO) were formed with
705 members. One Federation was also formed with 14 members. 1707 farmers were
provided services for 2240 hours through TFOs generating income of Rs. 9,97,968/-.
Samaj Shilpi project was initiated by Shroffs Foundation Trust to train selected
individuals to become proactive in community development. This was achieved by providing
special training in dealing with the community on various aspects of development. During
the year, 20 enthusiastic young men from Chhota Udepur block were selected and trained for
this purpose.
School Vikas Samitis were formed in 10 schools of Chhota Udepur, under School
Support Program. Various extracurricular activities were organized to emphasize on
importance of festivals, sports and cleanliness. Elocution competitions were organized for
the children. Children and teachers were motivated to attend the schools regularly. Under
Literacy Campaign, 200 women from 7 villages were made literate.
2. Ekalbara Center (Padra)
Shroff Foundation Trust has had its presence in Ekalbara since 1992. It has been addressing
various issues related to agriculture, safe drinking water, soil and water conservation, health and
education to serve the local population. During the year, it has implemented programs like
CHANGE, Protecting Child Rights-IKEA, Link Workers Pogram, Irrigation Management
Program as well as has supported Pani Samitis and local schools.
CHANGE-Communication for Health Advocacy in NRHM Grassroots Empowerment
program is being implemented in 83 villages of Padra block since 2010 with an aim to
strengthen the ability of rural communities to access quality public health services by using
participatory communication techniques. During the year, 600 health workers were given
information about the project through a Dengue workshop. 8 stake holders were taken on 3
days exposure visit to an NGO in Khed Brhma. 20 Asha workers were trained for the 3rd
phase of the program.
IKEA-UNICEF funded project to prevent child labor, protect children's right to education
in cotton fields and to ensure schooling for all the children under the age of 14 was
implemented in 20 villages of Padra taluka. During the year, 20 children's groups were
formed with 169 members of whom 42 were trained for leadership. Child protection
committees were formed in 10 villages. 27 participants were trained through 2 programs.
During CRC week 20 awareness programs were organized and 287 families were linked with
government schemes for benefits.
Link workers program is being implemented since 2010 in 21 villages of Padra taluka, to
create HIV/AIDS awareness. Various aspects of HIV/AIDS like transmission, risky behavior,
prevention are included in the program. Wide use of condom is being promoted as well as
compassionate behavior towards affected people is being advocated. All pregnant women are
being tested for HIV. Through Youth Information Centers, the program has received impetus.
Capacity building of farmers through Participatory Irrigation Management Program was
undertaken in collaboration with Sardar Sarovar Nigam Ltd. to help farmers increase the
crops yield, minimize the expenses and manage and maintain the water distribution system in
20 villages of Padra taluka. During the year 1309 farmers were made members, subcommittees were formed in 3 villages to manage day to day administration. Pani Samiti
members and farmers received guidance on related issues through 2 block level seminars.
With a view of supporting Pani Samitis in completing the unfinished work under Safe
Drinking Water program and supporting schools to improve the quality of education, it was
decided to intervene in five villages through Ekalbara Center. The aim was also to ensure
100% attendance of school going children. This was done by conducting 15 meetings with
111 members of 4 Pani Samitis and work was completed in coordination with water
department. 155 children were admitted to schools bringing the total to 100% attendance.
This was achieved through 13 parent teacher meetings where leaders of the villages were
also present. Children were also exposed to scientific methods of procuring clean drinking
water, various methods of rain water harvesting and importance of saving environment.
During the year, Breed Conservation Program for Surti buffaloes was initiated in 19
villages of Padra block, with the support of Gujarat Livestock Development Board. 237
buffaloes were provided with artificial insemination under the project.
