The Strangest Prayer
Lenten Worship Series
March 1March 29
We pray the prayer together every Sunday. Many of us know
the words by heart. Yet, the prayer taught to us by Christ is
anything but domesticated or tame. John Dominic Crossan
calls the Lords Prayer the strangest prayer and names it as
a revolutionary and radical set of words, in Jesus context as
well as ours. This Lenten season, a time set aside for prayer and preparation for the celebration
of Easter, let us re-examine these words and discover together their radical call upon our hearts
and lives:
March 1: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be thy name...
March 8: Your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven...
March 15: Give us today our daily bread...
March 22: Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us...
March 29: Save us from the time of trial...
Easter: April 5: For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen!

Lenten Bible Study
Our Lenten noontime study has begun on Wednesdays from 11:30
a.m. to 1 p.m.
The topic is Women of the Passion.
Bring your own lunch, and come for a time
of study and discussion.
The Wednesday night adult study, after
supper, will begin next Wednesday and you
will have the opportunity to experience a
variety of spiritual practices, one (or more)
of which you might find touches your soul
for years to come. We hope to see you!
Quick updates on research: Mental Health in Douglas County
(Chairs: Rev. Kathy Williams and Rev. John McDermott)
Last week, we received a commitment from County Commissioner
Flory to travel with a Justice Matters delegation to see and understand
the Bexar County, Texas jail diversion model in April. We extended
the same invitation to other local leaders. We feel it will be important
for all of the key stakeholders of our community to understand one of
the best models we have in our country to divert the mentally ill into
treatment instead of jail. To understand the problems that rise out of
the intersection of jails and mental health, we invite you to check out
an article in the New York Times published last week: Jails Have Become Warehouses for the Poor, Ill and Addicted, by Timothy Williams, Feb. 11, 2015.
Blessings,

Building Reconstruction Update:
As many of you have already seen, we have new floor tiling in the Roger Williams Room and it looks great
thank you Krings Interiors! It will soon be professionally
cleaned and ready for many years of good use.
We are also happy to announce an estimated timeline of
renovations as we continue on our journey to a new,
more hospitable building! There will be some variables
out of our control, of course, but were close enough to
have a tentative schedule to move forward with. Thank
you for your continued prayers that we stay on schedule
and are able to continue doing ministry together with as
little interruption as possible!
~Pastor Matt
February 24: Receive completed permit from the city.
End of Feb through end of March: flooring installed in Youth
room, Sunday School and additional rooms, hallway, and
probably kitchen (this is the most tenuous space, given
the special process for flooring.)
April 5: Celebrate Easter in our current sanctuary.
April 6 through Memorial Day: renovation in sanctuary area,
including narthex and Judson room. (Temporary sanctuary will be set-up in Roger Williams Room. Congregational and community activities will continue to take
place, but with a more limited space.)
By Vacation Bible School (June 8), we will be ready to worship in our new space!

160 Years of Food, Fellowship, and
Faith
To celebrate our 160th Birthday, we are compiling an up to date church cookbook. We want
this cook book to reflect who FBC is right now,
in 2015, so we want to include as many people
as possible. People of ALL ages. The cookbook
will feature all the typical categories in a cookbook but check out some of
the new categories we will include: art, food memories, and creative
writing.
**To submit your recipes just look for the forms in the back of the sanctuary, the church office, and in the Sunday school rooms. The deadline
to submit your recipes is April 1st, 2015....no fooling!! So pull out
your recipe box and find your favorites!!
