Narrator: Once upon a time in Central Java, there were two kingdom,
Pengging kingdom and also Baka kingdom. Prabu Damar Maya
was the king of Pengging Kingdom. He had a son samed Raden
Bandung Bandawasa. Meanwhile, Prabu Baka was the king of
Baka Kingdom. He had two ministers named Patih Gupala and
also Patih Baras, the giant and also a daughter named Roro
Jonggrang. Prabu Baka wanted to expand his kingdom.
Patih Gupolo: Your majesty, I am here. Why did you call me?
Prabu Baka:
Patih Gupolo, Im planning to expand our kingdom and get
rid of Pengging Kingdom, but I dont know how.
R. Jonggrang: Dad, sorry to interrupt you, but I think the only way to take
over the Pengging Kingdom is no other than war.
Prabu Baka:
If its the only way, then okay. Well do it. Patih Gupolo, tell
Patih Baras and the troops to collect all the tax from the people.
If they dont obey, then Im going to punish them.
Patih Gupolo:

Sure, your majesty.

Narrator: Then, Patih Baras, and the troops started doing their job and

Narrator: All the fortune and tax were given to Prabu Baka. After the
preparation, Prabu Baka and his troops went to Pengging
Kingdom. In the other hand, Prabu Damar Maya chose his son,
Bandung Bondowoso to fight against Prabu Baka.
Prabu Baka:
Patih Gupolo, go fight another troops with Patih Baras, Ill
be against Prabu Damar Maya. This way, we can beat Pengging
Kingdom faster.
Patih Gupolo: Alright, your majesty.
Bondowoso:
Hey, Prabu Baka! How dare you to attack my dads
kingdom! If you want to fight against him, you have to fight me
first!
Prabu Baka:

Then I will fight you!

Narrator: Prabu Baka were killed and Bandung Bondowoso won the battle.
Bondowoso:

Hahaha! I win!

Patih Baras:

But how?! Troops, back off!

Narrator: Patih Gupolo, Patih Baras, and the troops went back to the
kingdom. They didnt realize that Bondowoso was chasing after
them. When they arrived at the kingdom, they told everything to
Roro Jonggrang.
Patih Gupolo: Your majesty, the king died when he was fighting against
Bandung Bondowoso.
R. Jonggrang:

Dad?! No!! *cries*

Patih Gupolo: Your majesty, dont worry. I and Patih Baras will protect this
kingdom and you. Things are probably going to get worse, your
majesty, I suggest for you to hide in a safe place. Dayang, take
her to a safe place!
Dayang 1: Alright. Your majesty, please follow me.
R. Jonggrang:

Sure. Thank you, Patih Gupolo.

Narrator: At the same time, Bondowoso and his troops were ready in front
of Baka Kingdom. Then they attacked the Baka Kingdom.
Bondowoso won and be the king of Baka Kingdom.
Bondowoso:
Hey, people! Starting from now, Im your king! All of you
have to follow my rules! And for those who dont, Ill punish you!
Narrator: When Bondowoso was taking a walk in the kingdom, he saw a
beautiful woman. She was Roro Jonggrang, he fell in love with
her on that moment.
Bondowoso:

You are so beautiful, whats your name?

R. Jonggrang:

Roro Jonggrang, daughter of Prabu Baka.

Bondowoso:

Roro Jonggrang, you are so beautiful! Will you marry me?

R. Jonggrang:

No, because you killed my father and ruin my kingdom!

Bondowoso:

I beg you, Ill grant all your wish!

R. Jonggrang:

Fine! I have one requirement that youll have to fulfill.

Bondowoso:

What is it? Fortune? A palace?

R. Jonggrang: No, you have to make one thousand temples. Do it in 24

hours.
Bondowoso:
That is tough, but Ill do it after the sun sets. Ill make a
thousand temples and by tomorrow morning, you will see them!
Narrator: When the sun had already set, Bandung Bondowoso meditated
and called the genies to help him.

Bondowoso:

Hey, genies! Help me!

Genie:

My master, Bandung Bondowoso. What can I do for you?

Bondowoso:
I want you and all your friends to help me. We need to
make a thousand temples. It has to be finished tonight!
Genie:

Alright, my lord. Ill do it.

Narrator: Helped by the genies, Bandung Bondowoso had already finished

999 temples. Roro Jonggrang was watching from afar. Because
Roro Jonggrang didnt want Bandung Bondowoso to finish the
task, she then called all the Dayang, Patih Baras and also Patih
Gupolo.
Dayang 1: Your majesty, why did you call us at this time?
R. Jonggrang:

I cant let Bandung Bondowoso finish his task!

Dayang 2: But how, your majesty?

R. Jonggrang: Burn all the rices in the east, then mash the rices so it
looks like its morning.
Patih Baras:

Sorry to interrupt you, your majesty. But, for what?

R. Jonggrang: That way, all the genies that helped Bandung Bondowoso
will disappear! They cant live with the sunlight.
Dayang 2: Okay then, your majesty. Well do it.
Narrator: Then, Dayang 1, Dayang 2, Patih Baras and also Patih Gupolo
mashed all the rices. Because of the mashing sound, the
chicken crowed.
R. Jonggrang: Keep on mashing and burning the rices until Im finished
talking with Bandung Bondowoso.
Narrator: All the genies that helped Bandung Bondowoso saw the sky that
had turned into a morning sky. They also heard the mashing
sound and also chicken crow. Then, they disappear.

Genie:

Sunlight! Lets go before we got burned!

Bondowoso:

Wait! You havent finished the last temple!

Narrator: But it was too late. All the genies disappeared. Bandung
Bondowoso then finished the last temple by himself. But, he ran
out of time and he didnt make it. Roro Jonggrang then
approached him.
R. Jonggrang:

Bandung Bondowoso, have you finished all the temples?

Bondowoso:

I have. Look at them!

Narrator: Then, Roro Jonggrang counted all the temples, but

R. Jonggrang: 997, 998, 999 Its only 999! Because you didnt fulfill the
requirement, then I dont want to marry you.
Bondowoso:
Roro Jonggrang, how dare you deceive me! Ill curse you to
be the last temple!
R. Jonggrang:

No!!! *slowly turns into a stone*

Narrator: Because Bandung Bondowoso was angry, he cursed Roro

Jonggrang into a stone. He finished the last temple and put Roro
Jonggrang that had turned into a stone inside the last temple.
The temples were named Candi Prambanan or Sewu Temple
that means a thousand in Javanese.
