First Baptist Church Weekly Update

The document discusses the finances of First Baptist Church. It explains that the church is nonprofit and relies solely on donations, tithes and offerings from congregation members to fund its operations and accomplish its goals. The budget is based on faith that congregational giving will meet weekly operational needs, so the church encourages everyone to give a tithe, offering or gift. The finances allow the church to have professional staff, clean facilities and equipment to carry out its ministry.

One of the most misunderstood operations of the church is

finances. People look at the building called First Baptist Church

and think, boy, they must be rich folks. Others attend our services
and see our equipment, clean building, professional staff, and think,
wow, they must have a lot of money in this church. Still others
attend church and never consider where the finances come from to
do all that we do. No, most people dont consider how a church
operates.
We are a non-profit institution. That means we have
nothing to sell and enter in no activities for profit. All of our
income is provided by gifts, tithes and offerings. We only have and
only accomplish what we have money for. Occasionally we have to
borrow money for building projects or emergency repairs but that
too is repaid by the offerings of the church.
The operation of the church is totally dependent upon the
offerings collected from the congregation each week. Our budget is
based not on what we have in the bank, nor, what we know we will
collect. It is based on faith that the giving of the congregation will
meet the weekly needs of the operations. That is why we encourage
everyone to give an offering or tithe or gift.
We know the Bible teaches the principle of the tithe, ten
percent of all we have given to the Lord and that this principle
should be the basis of what we give. However, realistically many
people do not feel they can give ten percent. That is were your
offering comes in. It is your willful gift to the work of the Lord. It
may not be a tithe but it will be honored by the Lord. And of course
anyone can give a special gift above their tithe and offerings at any
time.
When you come to worship this Sunday plan on giving your
tithe or offering or gift to the Lord,. I will look forward to seeing
you then.
Paul

LISTENING AIDS
The AV Committee has discovered an effective, low-cost solution to those who require additional amplification of the
sounds. Methods used in the past proved unreliable, expensive
and less than healthy. We have purchased and installed FM
radio transmitters in the Worship Center, Youth Building and
Fellowship Hall which will broadcast every event on the FM
band of 91.0. This unit was tested last week and got two
thumbs up from those who tried the system. A small FM receiver and earphones or a headphone is all that is required.
Those receiving this signal are able to adjust the volume to fit
your own personal needs. Check with a member of the AV
team if you need more information.
SAINTS ALIVE CHOIR
The Saints Alive Choir will be singing in the evening service
this Sunday night. Join us at 6:15 PM in the Choir Room as
we warm up to share The Day is Coming, a song written by
Mary Ellen Kerrick that excitedly anticipates the return of the
Lord. Wear your green and khaki.
p.s. Thanks for singing last Sunday morning. You were a
blessing!
HANDBELLS
We have a vacancy in the roster of ringers in our Handbell
Choir. If you are a music reader, youre already on your way
to being a qualified bell ringer. We are working on 5 pieces to
be shared at the Winter Ring, a festival which will be held at
the First United Methodist Church in Bainbridge the weekend
of February 20-21. The festival concludes with a concert that
is open to the public that Saturday afternoon, February 21.
Check us out to see if a ministry with bells is in your future.
