Justwantedtosharemyexperienceswhichmightbeveryusefulforyoutopullyououtfromacrisessituationwhen
youaresurroundedbytheusersinordertofixanissueASAP.
WehadasituationwheresuddenlywestartedgettingcasesfromtheBWusersthatBWsystemisrespondingvery
slowlyandtheirqueriesarerespondinginminutesratherthanseconds:(.Westarteddoingthebasichealthcheckof
thesystem.InitialinvestigationshowedthattherearetoomanydialogworkprocessoccupiedinSM66andallwere
stuckfromaroundmorethan1500secsformajorityofusers.Tofixthissituationwekilledalltheprocessesthatwere
stuckforalotofusersbutsinceuserswereloggedintothesystemsaftersometimethesituationbecamethesame.

ContactedBasisteambecausewewerenowalmostsurethatthisisasystem/memoryrelatedissueandbasisteam
canhelpus.OurBasisConsultantsuggestedusthathewantstolockalltheusersforsometimeandthenrestartthe
applicationandthedatabaseservertoseeifhelps.
ButNoluck,whenwethesystemwasbroughtupstillsameissue.HenceitagaincametoBWqueuefromBasis.
Suddenlywhileinvestigatingtherootcausewenoticedthat17cubesinthesystemwereshowinginactivestatusin
BWAccelerator.WecheckedtheRFCconnection.Checkedifalltheserviceswereupandrunningfine.
Sowhereistheproblem?WhatcausedthiscubestobeinactiveinBWAcceleralor?AnyBody???
Startedthinkingtorebuildindexesforallthe17cubesagain,whichwouldmeananescalationandobviouslywould
beatimeconsumingactivity:(.SuddenlyrememberedthefieldTECHINA(TechnicalReasonforInactivity).Thisfield
didallthemagicforus.WewenttotableRSDDTREXDIR(AdministrationoftheTREXAggregates)andcheckedfor
thecubeswithObjectStatusasInactive(OBJSTATasINA).Wewereabletofindallthe17cubeshereinthelist.Then
wehadalookatthefieldTECHINA(TechnicalReasonforInactivity),valuetherewasC'(Adjustedduringchange
run).Thisgaveusahintandhopes,yeswecandoitquickly:).Wethenwentaheadandloggedtothechangerun
monitor(TCODECHANGERNMONI)andwereabletoaseeaterminatedchangerun.Thiswasthecauseofall
problems.Werestartedthischangerunandtheproblemgotresolved.SuddenlyallthecubeshadactiveBWA
indexes.
HerearethevariousreasonsforwhichaBWAindexcouldgetinactive.Hopethisfieldbecomeshandyforyouin
future.

Yousomehow"SuddenlyrememberedthefieldTECHINA"?Ithinkwewouldbeevenmoregreatfulif
wedidn'thavetogothroughallofthistodiscoveraproblemlikethisonamultimilliondollar
enterpriseproduct.Noteveryonewouldevencomeclosetofindingthistableandprobablybedown
muchlonger.
IthinkinformationlikethisshouldbereadilyavailablebySAPinacontextmenuordashboard
insteadofdiggingthroughtablesthatonemustknowthroughbattlefieldknowledge.Thanksforthe
