POST INTERN ASSINGMENTS 15.07.2014
The Ministry of Health is taking action to calling applications from the batches of medical officers who have
completed their internship successfully by 19.05.2014 and 14.07.2014 in order to allocate institutions according
to the service need and common merit list.
The list of vacancies and combined merit list are annexed herewith.
Proper web based application will be displayed in the Ministry of Health website (www.health.gov.lk) on

September, 2014 Please bring these vacancies to the notice of medical officers who have completed their
internship successfully by 19.05.2014 and 14.07.2014. Also please inform such Medical Officers to apply only
through web based application and printed copy of the web based application should be submitted to the
Head of Institution on or before 01

October 2014 in order to reach those to this office on or before

October 2014. Such applications should be sent as one packet if possible by hand delivery.
Following documents duly certified by the Head of the Institution should be submitted with the printed copy of
the application.
1. A letter from the Head of the Institution confirming the successful completion of the internship
with relevant dates.
2. Certified 2 copies of the full registration of the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
3. Certified 2 copies of the National Identity Card.
Applications submitted without above documents will not be considered for post intern appointments.
Those who wish to withdraw their applications, should do so within one week of the closing date.
These appointments are made based on common merit order list issued by the University Grant Commission and
Sri Lanka Medical Council.
The application should be filled in the order of preference. Each applicant should apply for a number of posts
considering his/her merit order number to ensure that his/her last choice could be accommodated. For example,
if a medical officers merit order number is 100 he/she should apply for a minimum of 100 posts. Officers who
have not indicated sufficient number of preferences will be posted to stations at the discretion of the Ministry of
Health according to service needs.
Officers assigned to these posts will have to serve a minimum period of 2 years in the respective posts.
However, Medical Officers who get selected for Post Graduate Training Programmes will be released to the
PGIM based on service requirements and priorities of the Ministry of Health. The authority to take such decision
shall be the Director General of Health Services.
Married couples who wish to be posted together will be considered at the merit order of the spouse who is lower
in the common merit order list. In such cases, both parties should add an explanatory note to their applications
and also attach a copy of their marriage certificate. They will be accommodated in stations as close as possible,
if they cannot be placed in the same station.
Officers selected for Anaesthesia/ICU posts are supposed to undergo a six months training and need to work in
Anaesthesia sections and Intensive Care Units depending on the service requirement. All trainees should be
trained at their appointed stations and in the event there is no Consultant Anaesthetist at the appointed
stations they should be trained in a hospital in the same province where there is a Consultant.
Officers assigned to Sri Lanka Army Hospitals and Sri Lanka Navy Hospitals will have to serve in the following
hospitals in rotation depending on the service requirement.
Sri Lanka Army - Colombo, Panagoda, Anuradhapura (Victory), Diyatalawa, Palali
Sri Lanka Navy - Colombo (Welisara) , Trincomalee, Boossa(Galle), Poonewa (Medawachchiya)
Heads of Institutions are requested to pay personal attention to send printed copy of relevant applications before
the closing date as applications received after the closing date will not be considered.
Officers who fail to report for duty after appointment to the respective posts will be considered as vacation of
posts.
Names of officers whose internship has been extended should be notified by the respective Heads of
Institutions to Director (Medical Services) immediately. However those whose internship has been extended
for reasons other than for approved medical and maternity leave will be placed at the bottom of the merit order
list when appointments are given to them. Such officers need to apply for post intern appointments as and when
they properly complete their internship appointments.
Please note that no application will be considered by the Department unless it is duly forwarded by the relevant
Head of the institution to the following address on or before the dead line above.
