From the Principals Desk
It is with great humility that I thank all students,
staff and our community for a great start to the
school year!
We are honoured to continue our learning journey
with you: please reach out to us as we work
together to support your child(ren)'s learning. It is
through open talk that we come to new
understanding, and this new understanding is so
important for us to make good decisions about how
to best serve a child in their learning journey. Your
voice is critical.
On behalf of the administration team and all the
staff at R-O, I wish you and yours a wonderful and
safe month.
Sincerely,
Mr. Ewen McIntosh
Principal

School Council
A reminder to all parents, our School Council meets
on the first Tuesday of every month at 6:00 PM in
the library. I encourage you to join us and get
involved in the great work that this organization
does for the children at R-O. I look forward to
seeing you at our next meeting on October 7th.
Attendance and Safe Arrival
In order to ensure the safety of our students,
your co-operation in following the established
attendance procedures is very important. In the
event that your child is unable to attend school on
a given day, please contact the school prior to
9:00 AM on the day of the absence to let us know
and provide the reason for the absence (613-537-
2454). You are welcome to use e-mail to let us
know about any absence, or pick-up. If you do,
please remember to send a copy to the Classroom
Teacher, Mrs. Tait ([Link]@[Link] ) and
Mrs. Thompson ([Link]@[Link])
in case one of us is absent. Safe arrival phone
calls will be made to all students who are reported
absent from class at the beginning of the day and
we are obligated to continue calling all available
numbers (including emergency contacts) until we
have reached someone to verify the absence. 911
will be contacted if no one is able to be reached.
Your co-operation and support in reporting
absences to us is most appreciated to insure your
child is safe.

Learning Commons
The month of October is sure to be a busy one
at the Library/Learning Commons at RO
School. Most of the classes in the elementary
section of our school have scheduled library
classes with time provided for reading, quiet
discussion and of course book exchange.
There are a number of new titles that have been
catalogued and should be ready for circulation
in a few days and these include books from the
Junie B. Jones, Magic Tree House, Geronimo
Stilton and Haunted Canada series.
Be sure to check out our Virtual Learning
Commons, available at [Link] for
current resources that are aligned to the
Ontario Curriculum as well as the Ask
Us/Demandez-Moi. This resource is available
to help students or parents find resources
required for their school work and experienced
Learning Commons Informationists will
respond to your requests for assistance in a
timely fashion.

I am at RO School on Mondays and Tuesdays
from 8:15 until 3:45 should you wish to speak
to me about the Library/Learning Commons at

School Checklist
1. School Trips If there is a possibility of volunteering at
the school, please get your Criminal Check done
a.s.a.p. If you had one last year, you need to see
Amanda and fill out a declaration for this year. PLEASE
NOTE: If you miss doing the declaration this year, you
will have to start over next year.
2. Allergy Alert Reminder that there are
children in our school with life threatening
allergies to peanuts/nuts, as well as scented
products. This is a medical condition (anaphylaxis)
that causes severe reaction to specific foods and
scented products. This can result in death within
minutes. As this affects the entire school community,
we are requesting that you not send foods or items
noted as potential hazards to school with your child.
If you have any questions, please contact your childs
teacher or school administration.
3. School Start The elementary children should not be
dropped off or arrive at the school before 8:50. There is
no supervision before this time. If they must absolutely
be at the school before 8:50, they need to be brought to
the Main Office.
4. Parking Please do not park on the North side of
College Street at the end of the day and REMIND your
children that they are to cross ONLY at the designated
crosswalk to meet parents who are parked on the South
Side of College Street.
