As part of its Youth empowerment pro-
gramme and with the aim of contribut-
ing to the social and economic develop-
ment of youth, Family Resource Centre
(FRC) in collaboration with Pumwani
Riadha Mosque has initiated small mi-
cro enterprise project to empower the
youth in the area economically.
The initiative saw the launch of a Mi-
tumba (second hand) shoes business
for Nairobis Majengo youth to uplift the
economic and social status of young
people in the area. The project was a
follow up to a recent launch of a bri-

Family resource centre with the help of well-
wishers donated 10 bales of Mitumba (sec-

where the proceeds from the sales will be
channeled in a revolving fund. Speaking on
Saturday during the event at Pumwani Riad-
ha Mosque FRC chairman Sheikh Abdulatiff
Abdulkarim said the youth in Majengo are
faced with myriad issues relating to crime and
poverty and it is prudent to actively engage
the youth in productive activities for them to

Political and civil society leaders in Mom-
basa have raised concerns over con-
tinued disappearances of individuals in
mysterious circumstances without trace
at the coast citing the recent disappear-
ance of Suleiman Salim Swalleh and Ab-
dulhakim Abdalla.
Suleiman was allegedly picked up out-
side his house in Majengo Mombasa by
plain cloth men who identifed themselves
as police men on 1st August 2014.The al-
leged offcers arrested him and bundled
him into a waiting car as his family mem-
bers watched in disbelief, who were later
threatened with a gun by one of the men
after they tried to intervene in his arrest.
The matter was reported at Makupa po-
lice station and OB number 04/1/8/2014
issued, since then the family has enquired
his whereabouts in all police stations and
the anti terror police unit (ATPU) without
success.
In a joint statement on Saturday coast
based lobby group Haki Africa executive
director Hussein Khalid, Mombasa sena-
tor Hassan Omar and Mvita Member of
Parliament Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir
strongly condemned the disappearance
of Suleiman saying that his case is one
of the many disappearances, torture and
murder of Muslim men in the region.
The leaders said the laws and fundamen-
tal rights of arrested persons have con-
tinuously been violated contrary to the
Kenyan constitution and that the police
should take an immediate action to bring
the perpetrators to book adding that the
Inspector of police will hold responsible
for conducting independent and transpar-
ent investigation.
HAKI Africa wishes to raise an alarm
over the high number of disappearances
of individuals in recent months. Predomi-
nantly Muslim men have been picked
by plain clothed personnel who identify
themselves as police offcers at the point
of arrest; following the purported arrest,
these individuals are rarely seen again
and their families are left to wonder aim-

Kericho Muslim push for IRE classes

Shawaal 12,1435/August 08, 2014
These initiatives are purposely meant for
the young people of this area to fully ex-
plore their socio-economic potential and in
turn improve their standards of living said
Sheikh Abdullatif.
Sheikh Abdullatif urged the youth to strive
in earning themselves halal (clean) in-
come according to the teachings of Islam
adding that many young people are being
lured into illegal activities due to lack of
economic opportunities.
On his part the area chief Antony Njoka
who represented the Deputy County Com-
missioner in the event said he is willing to
work with anyone irrespective of religion
and race for the betterment of the youth
and thanked the Family resource centre
and donors for their contribution and kind
gesture shown towards youth upliftment.
I encourage other donors and well-wish-
ers to follow suit in the realization of socio-
economic development among Muslims
and other communities leaving in this
area said the chief.
The chief stressed on the need to curb
idleness and high crime rate following the
recent ban on miraa export to UK, which
saw many young people lose their source
of income resulting many to engage in
criminal activities.
Muslims in Kericho County have urged the
Ministry of Education to introduce Islamic
Religious Education lessons at Kericho
Day secondary school to cater for the spir-
itual needs of Muslim students.
Led by the Supreme Council of Kenya
Muslims (SUPKEM) Kericho chapter sec-
retary Sheikh Abdul-Aziz, they said the
school has many Muslim students who
are interested in taking IRE as a subject
for spiritual nourishment and inculcation of
good moral values in them to be responsi-
ble persons in the society.
Speaking at the Kericho J amia Mosque re-
cently, Sheikh Abdul-Aziz at the same time
called on Muslim parents to encourage
their children to enroll in teachers training
colleges to pursue teaching as a profes-
sion to address the existing defciency of
Islamic Religious Education teachers be-
ing experienced in both primary and sec-
ondary schools across the country.
He lamented that lack of interest by Mus-
lim students to pursue teaching as profes-
sion had led to non-Muslims to take up the
teaching of IRE and Muslim students being
forced to take Christian Religious Educa-
tion (CRE) adding that the trend was ad-
versely affecting the education of Muslim
children in education institutions.
Sheikh Abdul-Aziz further appealed to
education cabinet secretary Prof. J acob
Kaimenyi to recruit more Muslim teachers
to address the shortages, adding that Mus-
lims were more concerned about the exist-
ing shortage of teachers.
''We would like to appeal and request the
cabinet secretary for education to consid-

er the acute shortage of IRE teachers in
most of the public primary and secondary
schools in the country to enable Muslim
students practice their religious obligations
and their constitutional rights without any
hindrances and obstacles,'' Sheikh Abdul-
Aziz added.
Meanwhile, the Muslim Education Council
(MEC) has urged Muslims to respond to
the call from the education ministry to join
the pre-service training programme for pri-
mary and secondary teachers.The council
executive director Munawar Khan said it
was imperative for qualifed students to join
the teaching profession to reduce the exist-
ing disparity of teachers in the community
and the country at large.
Khan encouraged Muslim teachers who
are well trained and qualifed to take IRE
and Arabic lessons for the spiritual nour-
ishment of Muslim students at both primary
and secondary schools, adding that most
schools needs IRE and Arabic teachers to
facilitate the teaching of the subjects to ca-
ter for spiritual needs of Muslim students.
The Teachers Service Commission on J uly,
31, 2014 advertised and announced the
recruitment of 10,000 teachers for both pri-
mary and secondary schools for the 2014
academic year. Application forms can be
downloaded from the TSC portal www.
tsc.go.ke and dully flled forms should be
submitted to County education directors by
August 11.
He said the council in partnership with oth-
er Muslim organisations will provide schol-
arships to some of the successful students
to facilitate their learning.
lessly searching in police stations, hospi-
tals and mortuaries in vain. Not only are
such cases a blatant violation of human
rights but also amount to persecution of a
section of the population, Said Hussein.
Hussein demanded the police to launch
an investigation into the owner of the car
that was used to ferry Suleiman since the
number plate is known adding that Sulei-
mans case could be the key to reveling
past disappearances and shooting of Mus-
lim Sheikhs in the County.
The leaders said the continued silence by
the state has being taken as a support for
the persecution of a section of the popula-
tion and called upon the elected leaders
in Mombasa to swiftly address security
concerns and ensure the rule of law and
human rights are upheld.
HAKI Africa also calls on the international
community, particularly international hu-
man rights institutions, to note the contin-
ued torture, harassment and subsequent
murder of individuals from a section of the
population of Kenya Hussein added.

Muslims in Machakos demand national IDs
Muslims in Machakos County have raised
their concern and complaints over discrimi-
nation of the Muslim community in matters
pertaining to issuance of national Identif-
cation cards. Led by the Machakos J amia
mosque Imam, Sheikh Anas Abdalla, they
decried that majority of Muslims and youth
who have attained the age of eighteen in
the county do not have identity cards due
to discrimination and stringent vetting pro-
cess and regulation.
''There is a lot of discrimination and profl-
ing by those issuing the IDs.They even ask
the applicants to speak fuent Kamba and
Swahili languages before being issued with
IDs,'' Sheikh Abdalla lamented.
Speaking at a press briefng at Jamia
mosque Machakos recently, Sheikh Ab-
dalla noted that majority of Muslim youth
in the county could not participate in the
recent police recruitment drives because
they did not have IDs and others cannot
register for exams or even form income
generating groups to empower themselves
economically.
Sheikh Abdalla singled out Swahili village
predominantly Muslim area as the most af-
fected stressing that the vetting exercise
that was to be carried out in the area has
been delayed for more than two years now
and called on the government to hasten
the vetting exercise to enable more people
apply for the document in order to partici-
pate fully in development programmes.
''We appeal to the national and county
governments to come out and address
the issue very urgently as lack of IDs has
locked out most Muslims from participat-
ing in development programmes contrary
to the constitution which emphasizes the
participation of citizens in all development
programmes at all levels without discrimi-
nation of any kind,'' said Sheikh Abdalla.
He further pointed out that without identity
documents Muslim youth are not in posi-
tion to beneft from the Sh 6 billion Uwezo
Fund meant to promote youth by giving
them soft loans to initiate business pro-
jects for the purpose of economic empow-
erment and improving their livelihood.
Sheikh Abdalla appealed to the offce of
registrar of persons in the county to initi-
ate mobile registration drives to register
and issue citizens the identifcation cards
adding that it is the obligation of the gov-
ernment to provide services and the docu-
ment to its citizens as it is their constitu-
tional rights to be issued with the same.

SUNDAY LECTURE
SUNDAY
Nini baada ya Ramadhan
By: Abu Huthayfa
10 August 2014 Time: 2pm-4 pm

SUNDAY LECTURE
Ramadhan is now over. Our eyes shed
tears and our hearts ache for the departure
of the month of the Quran, the month of
mercy, the month of solidarity, the month
of forgiveness, the month of freedom from
the Fire. However, we should continue do-
ing good deeds after Ramadhan since the
Lord of Ramadhan is the Lord of the entire
year.
Means of Ongoing Obedience
First, be a Rabbani, not Ramadhani ! Some
pious people used to say: Try to be a Rab-
bani (belonging to Allah always), and do
not be a Ramadhani (only worshipping
Allah in Ramadhan). We do not worship
Almighty Allah only in Ramadhan; we have
to worship and serve Him every day of our
lives.
Muslims must continually do good deeds.
We have to observe our daily prayers, fast
during Ramadhan, give zakah, and per-
form Hajj if we can afford it. We should also
speak the truth, be honest, and treat each
other and all human beings with courtesy
and kindness. Remember that good deeds
lead to more good deeds and bad deeds
only lead to more bad deeds. It is said:
One of the rewards of good deeds is more
good deeds, and one of the consequences
of evil is committing more evil deeds.
Second, consistently doing good deeds
is a sign of sincerity. When people do
something good and then do more good, it
means that they really benefted from their
good actions and that Almighty Allah ac-
cepted their good deeds. However, when
someone prays, fasts, does some acts of
charity, and then stops doing these things,
this means that from the beginning his in-
tention was not good. He was not sincere
in his good deeds. The Prophet (peace and
blessings be upon him) always stressed
the fact that the best good deeds in the
sight of Almighty Allah are those that are
done consistently, even if they are very few.
Islam is the religion of purity and sincerity.
This applies to all the seasons of the year;
not only to Ramadhan.
Allah the Lord of Ramadhan is also the
Lord of the entire year. Thus, we should not
confne our acts of worship to the month of
Ramadhan; instead, we should seize every
chance to show humbleness, devotion and
sincerity to Almighty Allah at all times, so
that we may gain His pleasure.
Third, there are means to continue doing
good deeds. The following are some of
these benefcial means that help us con-
tinue doing good after Ramadhan:
1. Seeking the support of Almighty Allah,
beseeching Him the Almighty to guide
you to the right path and to help you re-
main steadfast in faith. Almighty Allah has
praised the supplication of those who have
been well-established in knowledge, when
they said: Our Lord! Cause not our hearts
to stray after Thou hast guided us, and be-
stow upon us mercy from Thy Presence.

Lo! Thou, only Thou art the Bestower. (Aal
`Imran 3: 8)
2. Continue to observe optional fasting af-
ter Ramadhan: We are encouraged in the
Sunnah to observe optional fasting after
the month of Ramadhan. The days in which
optional fasting are recommended are:
a) Fasting six days during the month of
Shawwal
b) Fasting the day of `Arafah, Dhul-Hijjah
9, provided that the person is not perform-
ing Hajj
c) Fasting Muharram 10, and if possible the
9th and 11th days of the same month
d) Fasting as many days as possible during
the month of Sha`ban
e) Fasting during the months of Rajab,
Dhul-Qi`dah, Dhul-Hijjah
f) Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays
g) Fasting the 13th, 14th, and 15th of every
lunar month
3. Continue offering the Tahajjud Prayer:
During Ramadhan we were accustomed
to performing the Tahajjud Prayer, so after
Ramadhan, we should continue to offer it,
even two rak`ahs. Praising the character
of devout believers, Almighty Allah says,
Their sides do forsake their beds of sleep,
they call on their Lord, in Fear and Hope.
(As-Sajdah 32:16)
Likewise, the Messenger of Allah (peace
and blessings be upon him) is reported to
have said: Keep on observing Qiyam Al-
Layl, for it was the practice of your right-
eous predecessors. Qiyam Al-Layl is a
means to get close to your Lord, atones
for your sins, drives disease from the body,
and stops from falling in bad deeds. (Clas-
sifed as Hasan by Imam Al-`Iraqi)
J abir (may Allah be pleased with him) re-
ported that he heard the Messenger of Al-
lah (peace and blessings be upon him) say,
There is an hour in the night, in which no
Muslim individual will ask Allah for good in
this world and the next without Him giving
it to him, and that applies to every night.
(Reported by Muslim)
Al-Hasan Al-Basri (may Allah have mercy
on him) said, We know of no harder act
of worship than enduring through the night
(in Qiyam Al-Layl) and offering our mon-
ey (in charity). He was asked, How is it
that those who observe Qiyam Al-Layl are
among the people with the most beautiful
faces? To this he replied, Because they
commune with the Most Merciful and He
clothes them in light from His light.
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with
him) reported the Messenger of Allah
(peace and blessings of Allah be upon
him) as having said: Whoever wakes up
at night and lets his wife do so in order to
offer two rak`ahs, will be recorded amongst
those who make much dhikr of Allah in that
night. (Reported by Abu Dawud)
4. Continue reading, listening and refect-
ing on the Quran: Through the month of
Ramadhan, we used to read, listen to and
refect on the Quran; therefore, we should
not forsake it after Ramadhan. The Quran
describes the Prophets complaint to Al-
mighty Allah because of his people forsak-
ing the Quran: And the Messenger has
said, O Lord, indeed my people have for-
saken this Quran. (Al-Furqan 25:30)
We should never forsake the Quran so that
we would not be included in the Prophets
complaint (peace and blessings be upon
him).
5. Continue taking care of the poor and
needy: In Ramadhan, we used to feed the
poor and take care of them. We paid zakat
al-ftr to help them meet their needs; there-
fore, we have to continue caring about
them after Ramadhan.
Ramadhan exposed us to hunger and
thirst. After feeling the pangs of hunger and
thirst we should be more sympathetic to
the plight of millions of people who are less
fortunate around the world. A true Muslim
can never be apathetic about the suffering
of others.
In a hadith qudsi (Divine Hadith) the Proph-
et (peace and blessings be upon him) nar-
rated from Almighty Allah: "O Son of Adam,
I asked you for food, yet you did not feed
Me. The man will ask: How can I feed You
when You are the Lord of the worlds? Allah
will say, "Didnt you know My servant so-
and-so was hungry and you did not feed
him; didnt you know that if you were to
feed him, you would have found Me with
him?" (Muslim)
6. Continue offering supererogatory acts of
worship; do what you are most inclined to
do and capable of doing regularly, even if
it is little. The Prophet (peace and bless-
ings be upon him) said, "O people! Do
only those good deeds which you can do,
for Allah does not get bored (i.e. of giving
reward) till you get bored (of doing good
deeds), and the best deeds to Allah are the
consistent ones, even though they may be
few."
7. Continue performing a lot of dhikr and
ask Almighty Allah for forgiveness. This
may seem insignifcant, yet observing it
regularly increases faith and strengthens
the heart.
8.Continue avoiding all that has been pro-
hibited: In Ramadhan, we used to refrain
from lawful thingssuch as food and
drinkduring the daytime. We should con-
tinue avoiding all that Almighty Allah has
forbidden.

Ramadhan is a month in which we increased our spirituality and
strengthen our relationship with the Quran. Ramadhan can be
overwhelming for women, as we strive to balance family, siblings,
extended family, work and social obligations. At the same time, we
want to increase our ibaadah and spiritual development, and the
balance can be very challenging.
Somehow, with lots of dua, a Ramadhan plan and less sleep,
many sisters do manage their duties and become more productive
in their ibaadah during this blessed month (Alhamdulilah!). The
important question is, how can we continue to balance our differ-
ent duties and roles, and continue a high level of ibaadah after
Ramadhan too?
In this article, I will mention some practical solutions on how to
continue our acts of worship after Ramadhan, so we consistently
feel the infamous Ramadhan imaan-high!
The Post-Ramadhan Action Plan!
Here are a few tips of continuing our Ramadhan habits after Ram-
adhan to ensure we remain on that spiritual high:
1.We all know the famous saying, failing to plan, is planning to
fail. We were all advised to have a plan for Ramadhan. So why
not have one for after Ramadhan? Ramadhan is a great time to
bond with the family, so ensure you involve them in the post-Ram-
adhan action plan too.
2. Going to bed early gives our spiritual development a great mo-
tivational boost. By performing wudhu, praying two nawafl (volun-
tary rakaah) and the accompanying duas we say before going to
bed, you will wake up refreshed and energized.
3. Ramadhan was a time of late mosque visits and standing long,
listening to beautiful recitation during taraweeh. Continuing ta-
hajjud after Ramadhan is a invaluable habit, even if its only for 15
minutes before Fajr. Allah loves actions that are small and consist-
ent.
4. Recite the Quran regularly, even if it is a page a day, to make
sure you are keeping that Ramadhan-connection with the Quran.
Take 1-2 hours out a week to ponder and refect over its meaning
by reading translation or tafsir.
5. Dhikr is a well-established practice during Ramadhan. Save
5-10 minutes for morning and evening adhkar, and utter the words
while you do other chores or work.
6. A healthy body full of vitality is very important. The Prophet Mu-
hammad said, Your body has a right over you [Bukhari]. Its im-
portant to embark on a healthy well balanced eating plan to cope
with the demands of fasting, and it is as important to continue
healthy eating after Ramadhan, to give your body renewed en-
ergy levels and vitality for ibaadah and all your other duties after
Ramadhan.
7. A must have for sisters is me-time, to relax and also reconnect
with Allah . It could be as simple as treating yourself to a nice cup
of tea, whilst your husband, siblings or extended family take the
kids from you for a while. Even if you have no children, you still
need sometime to recuperate from work, household and family
obligations. You can spend this time making dhikr and refecting
on your performance during Ramadhan.
8. Light exercise such as walking or cycling for 15-20 minutes a
few times a week, will also give us a motivational boost and in-
crease our energy levels. You can even have walks with your chil-
dren or with your husband whatever foats your boat.
Balancing Household Obligations after Ramadhan
Our household, work and social obligations still remain after Ram-
adhan. Here are tips to continue our Ramadhan habits so we can
make the most effective use of our time:
1. Stock up food cupboards with food you will need for about a
month, as this decreases weekly shopping trips and impulse buys
2. J ust as leftovers were great for suhoor during Ramadhan, be
creative and use leftovers to make the meal for the next day
3. Have regular mini halaqahs with your family; the children will
love the continued feeling of Ramadhan.
4. Take power naps when you can! Mothers often fnd this diffcult
to do; schedule 20 minutes when you have dropped your kids off

"To the Zionist trolls who continue bringing up their top four most
absurd arguments to justify these latest atrocities in Gaza:
1) "Hamas fred 1,394 rockets at Israel!"
How many rockets, missiles, tank shells, cluster bombs, white
phosphorous bombs, bullets, cannons and grenades has Israel
unleashed on the Palestinians? It's a sad situation and only refec-
tive of the evident bias when you can count to the 3rd decimal
point the number of Hamas projectiles but be completely clueless
about Israel's arsenal.
2) "Israel is defending itself. What would you do if someone was
fring rockets at your country?!"
A: If I occupied a people, placed a crippling trade and economic
embargo on them, placed them under siege, humiliated them dai-
ly via military and police checkpoints, controlled their water and
electricity, constructed apartheid "J ewish-only roads", shot their
children, bombed their schools, mosques and businesses, illegally
seized their lands, destroyed their crops, demolished their homes,
threw thousands of them in dungeons and treated them like sub-
humans and they fred rockets at me - I would probably stop doing
all of the above.
Secondly, Israel has been mass murdering the Palestinians for
over 60 years - long before any rockets were fred and long be-
fore Hamas was even in existence. So this is nothing but a fallacy
designed to defect the reality of the situation and mislead others.
Finally, Israel's indiscriminate use of heavy weaponry in civilian
areas is a war crime, not self-defense.
3) "This is Hamas's fault, they use human shields. Israel doesn't
target civilians!"
A: Excuse me, when you launch an unbridled, indiscriminate at-
tack from warships, fghter jets, tanks, artillery and helicopters on
a CIVILIAN AREA - what do you expect to fnd there - breakdanc-
ing hobbits? When you attack civilian areas, you kill civilians. It's
not Advanced Chinese Mathematics.
Gaza is the most densely populated place on earth. It's an open air
prison. So when Israel fres into these areas it is going to kill and
maim people every time.
Secondly, according to the Israeli Human Rights group, Beit Selem
which tracks both Israel and Palestinian deaths, dozens of chil-
dren as young as 4 years old were killed with gunshot wounds to
the HEAD AND CHEST. Not to mention the videos coming through
showing snipers killing rescuers. Bombing ambulances and hos-
pitals also has to be the most cowardly thing a military could do.
So I'm afraid this "doesn't target civilians" statement doesn't hold
up the facts.
4) "Israel is the most moral and humane army in the world. Who
else calls/texts people and drops leafets warning them to evacu-
ate before a pending attack?"

I love this one.
"Please be notifed in 5 minutes, we are going to destroy your
home."
In other words, Israel publicly announces to thousands of civil-
ians their full intent to perpetrate yet another war crime and you're
asking us to somehow acknowledge this as some type of humane
gesture? The gall.
How about a rapist or murderer "notify" their victims by sending
them text messages/leafets that they're coming shortly to rape
and murder them - does it make it any less perverse? If this is the
level of desperation Zionists and their sympathisers have stooped
to, then it's little wonder public opinion is God willing, starting to
turn against them.
As for "evacuating"...
Have you seen a map of Gaza? If so, could you please explain
to me where the Palestinians are supposed to "evacuate" to? To
the north and east, they are blocked by Israeli walls and military
checkpoints. To the south is Egypt's closed crossing thanks to Is-
rael's slave, Sissy. To the west is the Mediterranean Sea. So what
do they do, swim for it and hope they can make it to Cyprus or
Turkey before Israel "defends itself" again and machine guns them
all in the water?
Go to a UN shelter? Wait, they tried that already TWICE - once in
Qana, Lebanon and once in Gaza a few years ago and Israel "de-
fended itself" by bombing the shelters massacring a total of 352
civilians. Add to this, Israel's naval and air forces who have killed
thousands of people are constantly patrolling the areas. They are
surrounded from every imaginable direction and you sit from the
comfort of your sofa sipping $8 coffee then froth at the mouth de-
manding they evacuate.
Sayeeda Warsi, a senior Muslim minister in Britains Foreign Of-
fce resigned on Tuesday, August 5, as criticism mounted against
Prime Minister David Camerons government for taking a morally
indefensible approach to ongoing Israeli war on Gaza in which
more than 1800 civilians were killed.
"Our approach and language during the current crisis in Gaza is
morally indefensible, is not in Britain's national interest and will
have a long term detrimental impact on our reputation internation-
ally and domestically," Warsi, 43, announced on Twitter, publishing
a copy of a letter she had sent Cameron giving the reasons for her
decision, Reuters reported.
Israel has been launching relentless airstrikes against Gaza since
J uly 8 where hundreds have been killed and thousands injured.
Israel has claimed that its new war on Gaza, under the title Op-
eration Protect Edge, was a response to the rocket attacks being
carried out by Hamas.
Israel occupation forces started a ground invasion of besieged
Gaza, home to two millions civilian, on Thursday, J uly 17.
Health offcials in Gaza said 1,868 Palestinians, most of them ci-
vilians, have been killed and nearly 10,000 injured since Israel
launched its war on the besieged strip.
A total of 67 Israelis, all but three of them soldiers, have died.
Her resignation comes as Israel pulled its ground forces out of the
Gaza Strip and started a 72-hour ceasefre with Hamas mediated
by Egypt as a frst step towards negotiations on a more enduring
end to the month-old war.
Warsis resignation presented a new embarrassment for Cameron
who has been facing growing criticism over the past weeks.
A heated political row broke out over the Gaza crisis, with Ed Mili-
band criticizing David Camerons silence over Israels actions as
inexplicable.
Facing criticism, British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said
that he had received thousands of emails, from a broad swathe
of people, expressing horror at the impact of Israels bombardment
on Gazas civilian population.

Government urged to act on insecurity
Muslim leaders in Mandera County have
called on the government to take suffcient
measures to address the deteriorating se-
curity in the country. At the same time the
leaders urged Muslims to unite and be at
the forefront in preaching peace and toler-
ance among Kenyans for peaceful coexist-
ence and mutual understanding to prevail
in the country for prosperity.
Addressing Muslim faithful at Mandera
J amia mosque grounds during Idd -ul-Fitr
celebrations, the leaders led by Sheikh Ab-
dirazaq Abdullahi said concerns are grow-
ing among Kenyans about the rising inci-
dences of lawlessness in the country and
called on the government to fex its muscle
and rein in criminals who want to see the
country descend into a state of anarchy.
Abdullahi noted that it is the obligation of
the government to protect the lives and
properties of all Kenyans without discrimi-
nation.
''We want the government to increase its
efforts to curb insecurity and terrorist relat-
ed activities in parts of North-Eastern and
Coast regions for peaceful coexistence
and prosperity,''Abdullahi said.
Abdullahi further pointed out that Islam in it-
self means peace and does not encourage
terrorism, hence it was unfair and wrong to
associate Islam and Muslims with acts of
violence and emphasized that the teach-
ings of Islam enjoined on the protection
of life and property, stressing that Muslims'
role in society include preaching peace and
cohesion among humanity.
''We as Muslims our role should be to
preach peace and tolerance despite the
many challenges we are facing as a com-
munity,'' he said.He said it is time Muslims
went back to their rightful position in the so-
ciety by preaching peace, stressing that it is
through peaceful coexistence that develop-
ment can be realized.
Abdullahi urged the government to take ac-
tion against those funding terror activities,
adding that if someone with a Muslim name
is involved in these acts it does not imply
that such action is condoned by Islam and
the whole community should not be collec-
tively blamed for wrong acts of a few in-
dividuals. Abdullahi called on all Kenyans
from diverse religious backgrounds to work
together towards nurturing a peaceful so-
ciety where all citizens live peacefully.
''We have for generations lived together in
peace and harmony and we should not al-
low dark forces to create divisions and sow
mischief among Kenyans,''Abdullahi said.

In an interview with the Sunday Telegraph,
he added that the situation in Gaza had
become simply intolerable.
Warsi was not a full cabinet member but
had the right to attend and played an im-
portant role in mediating between the gov-
ernment and Britain's Muslim community.
Receiving Warsis resignation, Cameron
regretted Warsi's decision to step down
and thanked her for her "excellent" work.
"Our policy has always been consistently
clear - the situation in Gaza is intolerable
and we've urged both sides to agree to an
immediate and unconditional ceasefre,"
Cameron, who is holidaying in Portugal
with his family, said via his spokesman.
Speaking in an interview with the Huffng-
ton Post after the announcement, Warsi
said she "couldnt sit silently by as the
Israeli military committed acts that have
been described by (UN Secretary-Gener-
al) Ban Ki-moon as 'moral outrages' and
'criminal acts'".
Taking the job of a Minister without Port-
folio in David Cameron's Cabinet since
May 2010, she is the frst female Muslim to
serve as a minister in the UK.
Warsi, 40, has been Vice Chairman of the
Conservative Party with responsibility for
Cities since 2005.
At the 2005 election, Warsi became the
frst Muslim woman selected by the Tories
to contest a parliamentary seat.

them busy while you complete other duties
or even take that nap!
Endless Cooking!
Feeding fasting people can be fulflled by
a simple one or two course meal rather
than a four course one that takes up so
much time leading to me being very tired
and unproductive, claims a mum-to-be.
This is a principle we can continue after
Ramadhan:
1. Have a meeting with your family and
decide on the meals you will be hav-
ing throughout the month and getting the
whole family involved is a great way of
lightening the load.
2. Delegate household activities to your
husband, children, neighbours and ex-
tended family. My kids love to be empow-
ered during the month of Ramadhan to
be involved in choosing and cooking light
healthy meals. Ramadhan is a perfect op-
portunity for families to eat and do activi-
ties together and this should be continued
after Ramadhan too.
3. Share your post-Ramadhan goals with
your family and let them know that you
want to continue the spirituality of Rama-
dhan, and would appreciate their help with
the household activities. This will ensure
you have more energy and free time to fo-
cus on the Quran and in your worship to
Allah , even after Ramadhan.
Keep up the Support Networks
Ramadhan is a time where sisters make
an extra effort to visit the masjid, espe-
cially for taraweeh prayers, which instilled
the Ramadhan-feeling into us. Greeting
sisters every evening and standing togeth-
er in prayer are things we may miss after
Ramadhan, and may make sisters feel
lonely once the blessed month is over.
Here are a few things you can do in your
community to continue the support net-
work in the masjid after Ramadhan:
1. Simply organise for family to babysit for
a few hours while you go to the masjid.
This could be when you have your me-
time!
2. Have a mothers and kids meeting club;
ideally, this could be in a hall within the
masjid. This gives the mothers a chance to
go to the masjid and the children to social-
ise with other kids in the community.
3.Organise small events and gatherings in
the masjid, and especially invite single sis-
ters, single parents and others you know
are on their own. Involve them and show
that you care for their well-being, not just
during Ramadhan but after Ramadhan too.
So, there you have it sisters! Your com-
prehensive post-Ramadhan action plan to
ensure that you continue your Ramadhan
ibaadah, even when the blessed month is
over. Comment below with your tips and
advice on keeping the spiritual high after
Ramadhan!

Ramadhan has come to an end but we should always remember
that the Lord of Ramadhan is the Lord of all days and nights. Ram-
adhan is supposed to be a lesson that should be taken to the next
twelve months before another fasting season comes. The way we
thronged the mosques for the fve daily Salah and other super-
erogatory prayers and braved through the cold for Fajr prayers,
should be observed with the same zeal throughout our entire life.
The generosity that was manifested by the rich to the poor and the
fraternity that was exampled during the holy days should be exem-
plary in all our times. May Allah accept our supplications, prayers
and all our deeds during the month of Ramadhan.
Ummah Foundation got a lot of support from the entire Ummah
and we would like to sincerely appreciate your contributions both
in kind and spirit. We had a clothes collection program for the chil-
dren of the female inmates at Langata and others and we must
say the response we got was very wonderful. May Allah SWT re-
ward those who thought of their naked brothers and sisters and
gave clothes to fulfl the obligation of clothing a fellow Muslim. Our
main collection point was at Parklands Mosque. These clothes will
be distributed to intended prisons and some slum areas in Nai-
robi. In order for us to meet the challenges facing our Muslim
community, Ummah Foundation had appealed to you all to donate
Clothes, Zakat and Sadaqa during the Month of Ramadhan. We
wish to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued sup-
port. It is our hope that this efforts will go a long way in uplifting the
standards of our Ummah.
Appreciations for your support

As you are aware Ummah Foundation ever since its inception,
has supported a lot of needy students all over the country includ-
ing paying for their fees. Every year the demands for bursaries
are enormous from all corners of the country. Deserving needy
students come to us including orphans, reverts, poor families
whom we cannot ignore.they are our brothers, sisters, sons and
daughters, whichever way you look at it we have a responsibility
to cater for the deserving ones and we have to fnd a way to meet
our obligations. You can make this happen by making your dona-
tion towards this noble goal. Whatever big or small your contribu-
tion is, it plays a big role in making sure a needy student pays fees
and sits to learn like the rest of the Kenyan students. Education is
the secret and weapon we should use to fght poverty and igno-
rance that we have been associated with since time immemorial.
We would also like to appreciate efforts played by our Brothers
and Sisters who donated food stuffs, dates, prayer mats, water
tanks and containers to help prison inmates. Ummah Foundation
took an active part and made sure the food stuffs, dates, mats and
water tanks reached the deserving recipients.
May Allah SWT bless those who tirelessly work for the sake of
this Ummah.
