Boletus luridus, commonly known as the lurid olete, is a fungus of the olete family, found indeciduous
woodlands on chalky soils in !sia, Europe, and eastern "orth !merica. #ruit odiesarise in summer and autumn and may e
aundant. $t is a solid olete with an oli%e&rown cap up to '0 cm (8 in) in diameter, with small reddish pores on the underside.

meshwork. .ike se%eral other red&pored oletes, it stains lue when ruised or cut. *hough edile when cooked, it can
cause gastric upset when eaten raw and can e confused with the poisonous Boletus satanas. /ence some guideooks recommend
a%oiding consumption altogether. Boletus luridus has een implicated in causing ad%erse reactions when eaten with alcohol similar
to those caused y the compound coprine, though laoratory testing has not re%ealed any e%idence of coprine in the
mushroom. Boletus luridus is mycorrhi0al, forming a symioticassociation with deciduous trees such as oak, irch and eech, and
