Keq Determination of FeSCN2+ Reaction

This document provides background information and instructions for an experiment to determine the equilibrium constant for the reaction of Fe3+ and HSCN forming H+ and FeSCN2+. Beer's law will be used to measure the equilibrium concentration of FeSCN2+ using a spectrophotometer. Initial concentrations will be calculated and the equilibrium concentration measured. Absorbance readings will be plotted against concentration to determine the molar absorptivity constant from the slope. The equilibrium constant will then be calculated using the determined concentrations. Safety information is provided for reagents used.
