This document provides information on pair identification colors for OSP copper cables, including the colors used to identify individual pairs, groups of pairs, and binders used to group multiple pairs. Pair numbers 1-25 are identified by specific ring and tip colors, and these colors repeat as needed for cables with more than 25 pairs. Larger cables may also use binder colors to group pairs into super-units of up to 600 pairs each for easier manufacturing.

Pair and Binder Identication Colors Groups of Pairs Binder Identification Colors
For cables through 600-pair, 25-pair groups are identified by their binder colors in the same sequence as the pair identification is accomplished. Group 1 has White-Blue binders, Group 2 has White-Orange binders, etc. In this manner, each pair is uniquely identified. In cables having 25-pair or less, binders are normally not used. However, if specified, the binders will be Group 1, WhiteBlue. For cables of 100-pair or less, the use of the White binder is optional.

For pairs numbering 1 through 25, the pair identification colors are outlined below. In cable constructions containing more than 25-pair, the colors are repeated as necessary. Color coded binders are used to identify 25-pair groups of color coded pairs.

It is desirable for manufacturing purposes to combine four 25-pair groups into super units when cables have 900-pair or more.
