This week we are learning:


Circle Time Review
Last week the students were introduced to the vocabulary car, boat, car, motorcycle, van and bicycle. We will continue to review these vocabularies alongside the new vocabulary. Last week a lot of the students knew this vocabulary so we will mix the vocabulary with the new vocabulary when it comes to games and activities.

Transport 2
Activity Time

Vocabulary: train, truck, police car, ambulance, fire engine, helicopter, sky, road and sea Sentence structure: It is fast/slow, There are.. many, it is big/small Songs: Wheels on the bus Choo-choo train We all go travelling by Activities: Transportation board game The students will have to know all the vocabulary and locations to play this game. The first person to make it across the board is the winner. Train Using toilet roll and bottle tops the students will create a long school train that will be placed on display Games: Time bomb - Sit your students in a circle. Pass a flashcard around the circle and countdown from 15 seconds. The student holding the card at the end has to say it. Alternatively you could play music and when it stops the student who has the card has to say it. Do this/do that - This is a Simon says style of game to warm the class up and get them listening. I will do random actions, when I say e.g.. Teacher says airplane they must obey and copy me, when you say airplane they should ignore you and remain seated.

Phonics
Review
This week the students will review all letters of the alphabet with the Jolly Phonics songs using the actions to remind the students of the letter sounds and action as the students are introduced to the letter q.

New (letters/sounds/vocabulary)
This week I will introduce the letter Q that makes the sound qu this is not a very popular sound in English Phonics but the last sound for the EP to learn. The students will be taught this sound using the Jolly Phonics CD and flashcard alongside the non-Jolly Phonics flashcard to help the students recognise this letter in real life circumstances.

Writing Practice
This week the students will continue to write in their phonics book. This book is a group activity book that is done as a class. This week the students will circle the beginning letters of a noun. This week the letters are p, q, r.

Sight Words
Sight words are no longer in the curriculum.

Parent Follow Up / Useful Websites / Homework:


Hello Parents! Just so you are all aware there is no School on Thursday 16th which is Teacher Day and on Friday I will not be away but there will be another teacher will cover my classes so class will resume as normal. Last week the students were given their first English homework and everyone did excellent to do the two pages and colour them in. There will now be homework every week on Friday to help your child build confidence with the English alphabet!
