seven churches. The %hurch of %hrist was not at the ti)e in these places alone( but all fulness is co)prised in the nu)ber seven. Asia( which is interpreted elevation( denotes the proud exaltation of the world in which the %hurch is so0ournin'( and( as is the )ethod of the divine )ystery( the 'enus is contained in the species. *or the Apostle 6aul also writes to seven churches( but not to the sa)e as t. !ohn. And althou'h these seven churches are a sevenfold fi'ure of the whole %hurch( still the thin's which he bla)es( or praises( ca)e to pass in the) one by one. turned. #ere the fi'ure of the %hurch is beautifully represented( as holdin' forth the li'ht of divine love in the bri'htness of a chaste breast( accordin' to that which the >ord saith( .>et your loins be 'irt( and your la)ps burnin'.. Another translation, which renders it, "like orichalcum of Lebanon," signifies 5 that in Juda( of which >ebanon is a )ountain( the %hurch will be persecuted( and especially at the last. syna'o'ue. #e pro)ises this to all the %hurch of that ti)e( for it was not at 6hiladelphia alone that there were believers fro) the syna'o'ue of the !ews( as we find in the Acts of the Apostles. kept. Because thou hast kept My exa)ple in sufferin' adversity( 1 also will keep thee fro) the i)pendin' afflictions( not( indeed( that thou )ayest not be te)pted( but that thou )ayest not be overco)e by adversity.
