ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA General Requirements Portable hand and/or wheeled cart or skid type extinguishing units are accessible for immediate use (to combat fires early). Fire Extinguishers are readily accessible without need for moving or climbing over stock, materials, or equipment (NFPA 10) Access to portable extinguishers in buildings complies with NFPA 10 as listed below: A) Easy accessibility has been provided B) Unobstructed access (from storage areas & equipment) exists C) Access to normal paths of travel, near entrances & exit doors D) Access with no potential of physical damage E) Access where readily visible and easily identifiable F) Access on a floor-by-floor basis Mounted Hand-type portable extinguishers are in easily accessed locations at grade or first level operating decks near access stairs. Mounted portable extinguisher locations are marked in red to attract attention to their location for quick access to their use. Extinguishers weighing less than 18 kg are mounted for access & removal. Tops are 1.5 m (maximum) above floors/decks. Extinguishers weighing more than 18 kg are mounted for access & removal. Tops at 1.05 m (maximum) above floors/decks. Shed doors for wheel cart extinguisher units allow safe access & face in the opposite direction of hydrocarbon handling equipment. Hand-type portable extinguishers in process plant areas installed at 30 m intervals in easily accessible locations. Where extinguishers protect individual equipment, they are located at least 7.5 m from equipment to allow safe access during fires Dry chemical extinguishers are at accessible locations (building exterior entrances) for Control Buildings & Electrical Substations Carbon dioxide (CO2) extinguishers are located inside control room buildings & electrical substations in easily accessible areas.
