The lighting is measured at 850mm above floor level. Ventilation system. Every enclosed space in crew acc except cold storage shall have Air conditioning sytem to be able to provide the space with pure air, for ships with GRT of 500 or less mechanical ventilation can be provided considering its efficiency in air circulation. If any of the above is not possible then natural ventilation can be provided.
Sleeping rooms: Provided when no crew membs are required to sleep on board with 2 pax at maximum. in single berth seafarers sleeping rooms the floor area shall not be less than: (i) 4.5 square metres in ships of less than 3,000 gross tonnage; (ii) 5.5 square metres in ships of 3,000 gross tonnage or over but less than 10,000 gross tonnage; (iii) 7 square metres in ships of 10,000 gross tonnage or over; However it can be reduced on certain cases. in ships of less than 3,000 gross tonnage other than passenger ships and special purpose ships, sleeping rooms may be occupied by a maximum of two seafarers; the floor area of such sleeping rooms shall not be less than 7 square metres; on passenger ships and special purpose ship,s the floor area of sleeping rooms for seafarers not performing the duties of ships officers shall not be less than: (i) 7.5 square metres in rooms accommodating two persons; (ii) 11.5 square metres in rooms accommodating three persons; (iii) 14.5 square metres in rooms accommodating four persons; on special purpose ships, sleeping rooms may accommodate more than four persons; the floor area of such sleeping rooms shall not be less than 3.6 square metres per person; for each occupant, the furniture shall include a clothes locker of ample space (minimum 475 litres) and a drawer or equivalent space of not less than 56 litres; if the drawer is incorporated in the clothes locker then the combined minimum volume of the clothes locker shall be 500 litres; it shall be fitted with a shelf and be able to be locked by the occupant so as to ensure privacy;
Separate sleeping room for maters and officer.
Sleeping berths: Separate berth for each, with metal or strong frame against corrosion and harbor vermin. No tiers of more than two, and if its 2 tier, then it shall not obstruct the side light near the side. Dimensions 198cms length, 80 cms breadth, min 300 mm above floor, and upper berth to be placed midway b/n the bottom of lower berth and the deckhead beams. Dust proof bed bottom on the top berth.

Mess rooms:
Separate from sleeping room and close with galley, less than 300 then galley can be used as mess room. With greater than 500 GRT then mess romm shall be separate for masters and officers. And appropriate facilities to access cooling equipment, cold and hot beverage equipment as well. Size: 1.5 square meter per person for number at any one time. The shipowner should provide a refrigerator and facilities for hot beverages and cool water. Pantries or locker should be provided for mess utensils along with facilities for washing utensils. Table and seat tops should be of damp-resistant material.
Sanitory facilities: in all ships a minimum of one toilet, one wash basin and one tub or shower or both for every six persons or less who do not have personal facilities shall be provided at a convenient location; with hot and cold running fresh water available in all wash places.
Laundry facilities: The shipowner should provide washing and drying machines. Adequately heated and ventilated drying rooms may be substituted for drying machines. Irons and ironing boards, or equivalents, should be provided.
Hospital accommodation. ships carrying 15 or more seafarers and engaged in a voyage of more than three days duration shall provide separate hospital accommodation to be used exclusively for medical purposes; the competent authority may relax this requirement for ships engaged in coastal trade Consideration should be given to the layout of the hospital with lighting, ventilation, heating and water supply for comfort and treatment of the occupants.
