LANGUAGE FOCUS: vocabulary related to crimes; the optimum usage of their vocabulary in order to accomplish the tasks during the English lesson. ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE:

Ss have already been accustomed to the new technology vocabulary; Ss. are accustomed to the kinds of exercises that will be solved during the English lesson. ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS: Having to deal with some juridical terms Ss. might find it difficult to associate the word to the crime properly and this fact may cause timing shortcomings. SKILLS: Reading; Writing; Speaking; Listening. MATERIALS: The English activity book; The English notebooks; The CD; The CD player; Flipchart; Pictures representing different crimes.

The scenario of the lesson


ACTIVITY 1: CHECKING THE PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE Aims: - to review some items about modern technology; - To ask Ss. questions about the modern technology items that hey have at home; Timing: 5 Interaction: T-S, S-T Procedure: T. checks Ss. homework orally; T. divides the classroom into two teams and they play a game using the modern technology items. TEACHER Hello, everybody! Glad to see me? I call the Ss. names Lets verify, homework. first, the STUDENTS Hello, teacher! Yes. Ss. answer saying Present written Ss. say the words in turn. (SS. had as homework a gapped text, having as a task to fill in the missing words that fit each space.)

Well play a game. I divide the Ss. Ss. listen to the games rules, in order into two teams. One team says a word to understand them. related to technology; the other team makes up a sentence using that word.

Each correct sentence gets a point. The Ss. who won are glad and proud of team with the most points is the themselves. winner. The competition between the two teams takes place. In the end I say the name of the winning team. ACTIVITY 2: WARMER Aims: - to warm Ss up; - to answer Ts questions promptly; - to participate intensively to the brainstorming exercise. Timing: 10 Interaction: T-S, S-T Procedure: T. asks Ss. questions about how things are getting on in our country and some other ones; Ss. refer to some up-to-date events telling things related to peoples protests in the University Square; Ss. express their opinions, freely; T. asks the Ss. what is the field that terms such as protests and other illegal and unlawful actions belong to; T. uses the word CRIME for a brainstorming activity; Ss. will have to think of any word related to this topic. TEACHER STUDENTS After this relaxing game, well get to Ss. listen carefully, the T.s requests. more serious things, such as the up-todate events in our country. I introduce the Ss. the brainstorming based on the word CRIME, which does not involve only blood and dead bodies. I draw Ss. attention that the general field is crime, but protests may be included here, burglary likewise etc. CRIME=an offence for which one may be punished by law. Can we relate modern technology to crime? In what way?

Ss. put down on the flipchart all the words related to CRIMES. Ss. are a bit clumsy as far as the juridical terms are concerned, yet, they havent dealt with them before. Of course. High developed technology is the basis for a new world war, probably.

ACTIVITY 3: LEAD-IN Aims: - to get Ss into the new topic of the lesson, concerning different crimes and illegal actions; - to match some words to their definitions correctly; - to use specific verbs for each crime. Timing: 20 Interaction: T-S, S-T, S-S Procedure: T. introduces some new words; Ss. have to match some pictures to their meaning; Ss. repeat the new words and copy them and their meanings in their notebooks; Ss. have to accomplish the task of giving the name of the crime and the verb related to each of the criminals they have above; Some other types of exercises will be solved by ss. TEACHER STUDENTS Please open your books on page 87 Ss. put down the title of the lesson in and write down the title of the lesson: their notebooks. Crime. CRIME means any offence for which one may be punished by law , not only blood or dead body. In this sense well learn some other words that highlight some felonies. I stick some photos of different offences on the board, Ss. having the task to find their meaning. -model reading I give Ss. the task to solve ex.5 a and bon page 87 in their activity book. I check the requested exercises. We continue solving ex. 6 a and b. I draw Ss. attention upon the prepositions used with some phrasal verbs related to judicial field.

ACTIVITY 4: REINFORCEMENT Aims: - to explain the title of the song; - to complete the gaps in a song, correctly. Timing: 5 Interaction: T-S, S-T Procedure: T. asks Ss. to explain the title of the song; T. asks the Ss. to scan the text: T. plays the CD twice; Ss. complete the gaps in their activity books. Teacher The next step in our lesson is to have a listening session and that is on page 101, ex. 11 a. Read the task, please. The name of the song is: Big Brother is watching you. Students Ss. open their activity books on the indicated page.

A S. reads the task, that is to take a look at the picture and explain what men in the picture are doing and how is the picture related to the title of the song. I play the CD twice, then, together Ss. tick the right answers or correct the with the Ss. I verify their answers. possible mistakes.

ACTIVITY 5: FEED-BACK Aims: - to use the proper vocabulary for the requested task; - to use the proper mimicry and the right intonation with the adequate inflections of their voice. Timing: 5 Interaction: T-S, S-T, S-S Procedure: There will be performed a role play between a woman who is reporting a theft and a police officer; Ss. will be dressed properly, for a real scene of theft. TEACHER STUDENTS I choose two students to perform the scene. I draw the Ss. attention upon the Ss. perform and the other ones are means they have to use: mimicry, watching with a great surprise. gesture, proper intonation and inflection of their voices. If there is time, we invite the Police Ss. accomplish happily the given task. Inspector Ryan Mitchel who will give us some advice on how to protect our homes while we are away.
