Writer’s Workshop
Monday- May 4th-Earth Movie Tuesday-May 5th-Festival of
Cultures
In May, the fifth grade will use the
Wednesday-May 20th-Staten Island Museum-Staten Island Ferry
Writing Process to write a Narrative
New York Harbor Tour Procedure that engages the reader;
provides a guide to action that anticipates
Thursday-May 21st-Brooklyn Botanical Gardens a reader’s needs; makes use of
appropriate writing strategies; includes
Cinco de Mayo Fiesta-The Fifth Grade will celebrate this historic relevant information; excludes
event on Wednesday, May 6. Both fifth grade classes will the extraneous information; and provides a
opportunity to eat some traditional Mexican dishes and listen to
sense of closure to the writing.

Reader’s Workshop The fifth grade will complete Unit 9 and
begin Unit 10 of Everyday Math this month.
In May, the fifth grade will continue to read Unit 9 focuses on Coordinates, Area, and
