Fresh content will be added regularly, including
stories highlighting unique classroom activities along

education, Lakier added.

Getting Ready for the New School
Year Family Home Visits:
Please note that during the month of August, your
childs classroom teacher and Family Support Spe-
cialist will be scheduling family home visits with all
of our families. Family home visits are an important
time for parents and Edgewater staff to meet and
share information that is important to your family
and your child. Home visits also support the rela-
tionship between school and home, teacher and
child, and Family Support and parents. Home visits
occur twice each year-the initial home visit and a
mid-year home visit.
If you are a returning family, please be certain that
you make an appointment with our Family Support
Specialist, Miranda Franco, so that you can update
your enrollment paperwork for the new school year.

Learning Center.
Our friends from
KID-FIT, a physi-

helped us learn about overall health, nutrition,
healthy food choices and exercise.
The preschoolers were involved in various ex-
orclsos ond hlnoss ocllvlllos, such os donclng,
stretching, gross motor skills and balance.
From the Directors Desk
The staff at EELC is very
fortunate, for we have the
opportunity to share many
milestones with our families.
Now, it is time for a new
milestone for several of our
familiesthe transition to
Kindergarten!
Kindergarten can be a time where children
experience anxiousness. This is, after all, an
unfamiliar place with many new faces! You
can help your child get off to a good start by
keeping the following tips in mind:
Talk about the kindergarten program before
Ihe hrsI dcy cI schcc|.
Talk with your child about kindergarten before the big day.
Find out what she thinks kindergarten will be like. Be pre-
pared to answer her questions: What will the start of the
day be like? What will the end of the day be like? Where
will I eat lunch and play?
IeI ycur ch||d kncw |I's OK Ic Iee| cnx|cus.
If your child is hesitant about starting kindergarten, let her
know that you (or an older brother or sister or friend) felt the
same way. Reassure her that she will get used to it very soon.
8e sure ycur ch||d |s we|| resIed cnd we|| Ied.
Kindergarten is usually more tiring for children than
preschool was. Your child will be better able to meet the
demands of kindergarten if he is well rested and has had
a good breakfast. When children start school, regular bed-
times and mealtimes are more important than ever!
He|p ycur ch||d deve|cp c sense cI respcns|b|||Iy.
During the school years, you will want your child to begin
taking responsibility for getting herself and her personal
belongings to school on time. You will want her to complete
her schoolwork and classroom jobs. You will also want her
to let you know when she brings home important notes from
school. As much as possible, let your child perform these
important tasks for herself, starting in kindergarten. Doing
so will help her feel capable and learn to be responsible.
cke k|ndergcrIen ser|cus|y.
Showing interest in your childs kindergarten experience
lets him know that school is valuable. Ask him who he
played with, what books he read, and what activities he
took part in. Read the notes that come home from the
teacher and school. Attend parent-teacher meetings and
as many other school events as your schedule will allow.
Your interest in your childs kindergarten experience sends
an important message: School is important!
