The Stringing Method
This method is suitable for weak writers. Using an outline, start by stringing separate words into sentences. Try to achieve Grammar and Spelling accuracy first before focusing on Vocabulary. Primary 1-4 students may want to try this method. Shoplifting I have learnt many lessons in my life. One of them, I learnt the hard and painful way. The weather was fine that Saturday. White clouds waltzed across the sky. Feeling bored at home, I decided to call up some of my friends. They were bold thrill-seekers by nature and I really enjoyed their company. We were at the shopping mall, cruising through the maze of shops. Then, we stopped at the entrance of a video game shop. We were mesmerized by the colourful posters. It was like looking through windows into another world. The pictures of the mystical creatures and dark forces of evil were truly breathtaking. We entered the shop and became engrossed in trying out the games. It was indeed an amazing experience for our senses. Deep inside, I longed to have one of those exciting games but I could not afford it. I sighed, If only I could buy one of theseJason, the big brother of the group came to me. He flicked his bright red fringe and grinned playfully. An ominous feeling came over me You can have one if you want. Just take it, he said. What if we get caught? I gasped and shook my head in protest. The thought of getting into trouble with the police sent shudders down my spine. Oh come on. Ive done it many times but I didnt get caught. Look at me, he tempted. Reluctantly, I agreed to the plan. My hands were cold and clammy. My legs trembled nervously and my heart was thumping against ribcage like a wild animal trapped in its enclosure. While the others looked out for security personnel, Jason and I carried out the shoplifting cautiously. My eyeballs were darting about. With nimble fingers, Jason grabbed a few discs and slipped them into my bag. There was a gleeful sparkle in his eyes. Then, we walked towards the exit apprehensively. Faster! Faster! Jason hurried me. Beads of perspiration trickled down my face. My stomach was churning and my heart pounded hard and fast. Oblivious to the hidden security camera, the shop keeper caught us committing the crime. I know what you both did. A voice boomed from behind. The shop keeper who caught us redhanded clicked his tongue in disapproval. We dropped the loot and lowered our heads. At that moment, we realised we had no where to run. Meanwhile, the others escaped. Jason pushed all the blame to me. He claimed that I had instigated him to commit theft. My mind was whirling in confusion. Stammering, I could not explain myself so I stood speechless in shock. The shop owner called my parents. They came in folded arms. Disappointed frowns were plastered on their faces. They thanked the shopkeeper for giving me a chance and not sending me to the police. My parents reprimanded on the spot. Ashamed of my own actions, my heart sank. From this incident, I turned over a new leaf. I also learnt never to surround myself with bad company. 1.
