Albuterol

Albuterol is a bronchodilator used to treat asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It works by binding to beta-2 receptors in the airways, relaxing smooth muscle cells and dilating the bronchial tubes. Common side effects include nervousness, tremors, and increased heart rate. Nurses assess lung and heart sounds before treatment, monitor for paradoxical bronchospasm during nebulization, and document responses after the treatment.
