The news report script.

In my main bulletin; news report script I had chosen to use many language features such as the mode of address to directly address my audience; for example I have done this within the introduction; where the presenter had mentioned the personal pronoun; youre listening to Oldham community radio. This word suggests that the presenter is directly speaking to the audience to make them feel as though they are involved; the pace for each words and timing within the news bulletin was precisely structured to 3 words per second in order to keep the bulletin within its time limit. In my news report script I have also chosen to use some conventional genres such as the inverted triangle for each of the news stories mentioned in the news report; the beginning, middle, climax and ending, the 5Ws and how to describe and explain each news article for the audience, G. Burtons news values simplified from Galtung and Ruges original news values, the structure of a news show; with the hard news story for emphasising a serious matter, a soft news to interest the audience and an off- the wall news story to fascinate and interest the audience. I had also decided to used background music for each news story to emphasise the news stories genres; a sound within the background that relates to the news story. As well as the background music group and I had used a jingle to introduce the news show, as the identity of our radio news show. Within the jingle I had chosen to use music that would be preferred by my target audience; which is 1419 year olds and both genders. The news stories that I had chosen to include in my news show follow the strict criteria of all news shows, a hard news story; which I had based upon the Metro Links health and safety regulations under

questioning after the incident with the death of an elderly woman caused by the Metro Links tram, I had decided to use this story as fits into G. Burtons negativity news values as well as the fact that the news story rises an emotional factor as a fatality is involved, the story also fits under the closeness to home aspect as the incident was conducted in fails worth which is a part of Oldham, this gives the news story a sense of community closeness- will grab attention as a death was reported in the audiences local area. Whereas the soft news story which I aimed to portray as light hearted and simplistic; is the horse meat enquiries, for this news story I had aimed to grab my target audiences attention through a humour approach with the pun and the direct reference to Tesco, my group and I also included an interview with the Tesco manager to gather his views on the issue regarding the horse meat. This news story was linked to the simplicity category in G. Burtons news values as the story is depicted as clear and concise without any statistical or factual evidence to impose a serious or devastating impact. In contrast to both of those news stories, my off- the wall news story was solely based upon the Oldham Colleges renewal project, this news story was picked to attract my target audience as the story links to the closeness to home aspect from G. Burtons news values simplified from Galtung and Ruges news values. This news story was portrayed as a simple yet informative piece of news as it relates to the Oldham public as Oldham College is close to the people of Oldham its part of their community area which is why itll grab attention. For the news show I had chosen to interview the Tesco manager for his views on the horsemeat enquiries which is my hard news story, my group and I had interviewed the Tesco manager as he was an

specialist person in that area, which is why his views are very important for this news story. Whereas for my soft news story I had chosen to interview the shareholder and communications manager of Metro Link Neil Harrison, as he was able to tell us what precautions Metro Link take to ensure public safety when the trams are so close to the public. And finally for the off- the- wall news story I had chosen to interview the staff and students of Oldham College to gathers their views on their colleges renewal project as well as interviewing the Oldham Sixth Form students for their views on their neighbours refurbishment project. In the news show broad cast the news reporting presenter was me, I had been chosen to undertake this role within my group as we all aimed to have a role in presenting a news story and I had presented the news show. For the horse meat enquiries news story which was the soft news story; Oliver rogers was the presenter and outside broadcaster for our group, he had gathered the news story on the horsemeat enquiries and interviewed he Tesco manager whereas for the hard news story; which was the Metro Link health and safety regulations questioned due to the death of an elderly woman by a Metro Link tram in fails worth, for this story I was the presenter, I had interviewed the shareholder and communications manager Neil Harrison about the health and safety regulations. And for the final news story which is the off- the wall news story; the Oldham Colleges refurbishment project, Rebecca was the presenter; her role was to gather the opinions of the Oldham College students and staff regarding the refurbishment project as well as using vox pops to gather the Oldham Sixth Form College students opinions on the oppositions renewal project. My group and I had chosen to use the sound clip flecky on a rainy day as our jingle; the introduction to my news show and the identity

of the news show itself. I had chosen this audio clip as the jingle because I felt that this sound was appropriate for my target audience; the music is very hip and lively which will attract my target audiences attention, this is because the younger generation tend to like music that had the lively and rhythmic sound effects. Whereas for the sound beds we had chosen to use very light ambient sound. We also used background music for each news story; this was done to emphasise each news story and the music used directly was relating to the news story.
