permanent members of staff. Over the years that grew to following:

Good question. As a consultant you have the opportunity to
work at many varied installations and experience different
operating systems, SAP versions, SAP upgrades and
installations. However once the job is done you are off to
the next, so you miss out on the opportunity to grow with a
company. It comes down to personal preference.

Give an example of some of the problems you deal with.

This is a good one! If any functional person has an issue he
can’t fix, then by default “It has to be a Net weaver or
Security issue.” It’s the catch all response. Of course this is
not always the case but you are sometimes called on to
prove it’s not security.

In one problem, we encountered two users with the same

access getting different results. The problem turned out to be
the decimal notation on their SAP accounts. One had
1.234.567.89 and the other 1,234,567.89.

If you don’t specify when you define the user account then
1.234.567.89 is the default, this was causing the problem
since some arithmetic calculations need 1,234,567.89.

What tips would you give students?

Practice, practice and practice! You have 7 x 24 access to
the systems; use it as much as you can, and if you have any
questions ask them. That’s what we are here for!!
