Blessing of the Animals
Trinity commemorated The Festival of St. Francis on Saturday, October 6 at the regular Saturday Service. Pastor Peterson blessed 18 dogs, 1 turtle and 1 parrot. 39 humans attended the service. Thank you to Bill Dross for providing the St. Francis cards handed out to the owners during the blessing and Sharon Thacker for assisting during the blessing. Thank you to Janet Robertson for providing the treats for the animals and Shirley Griffin for providing the treats for the humans and for taking all the pictures that can be seen on the Trinity Face book Page and Website.
TRINITY TOUR
On October 3, 2012, 26 members from the All Saints Lutheran Church Senior Group and 5 members from Old Trinity met at Schmidts for lunch and then traveled to Old Trinity for a tour of the church. The All Saints group was interested in the history of old churches in Columbus and in the spirit of the Columbus 200 Celebration, wanted to tour our building. They were a delight to welcome to our church and most appreciated of our willingness to give them a tour. They were very impressed with the stained glass windows and the care we give our church. Special thanks to Bill Dross for making the brochures to hand out, to Ruthie Myers and Amanda Greiner for sharing their experiences as life-time members, to Sharon Thacker and Beth Fraley for making it possible for Ruthie and Amanda to attend the luncheon and tour and to Shirley Griffin who was the tour guide.

[Paul writes] For I received from the Lord what I first handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me. I Corinthians 11:23-24
Dear sisters and brothers in Christ, +Peace+ As I was growing up, it was customary in my home on Thanksgiving Day to talk around the table about what we were thankful for. Thats a good practice. Prime your family to try it this year, if ever you havent. An even better practice is to have that conversation with God every day as you pray before bed. If this is not part of your end-of-day routine, I urge you to make it so. Some of the things worth giving thanks for day-to-day are small, and may even seem petty. The other day Cheryl brought home some honey crisp apples, and I overflowed with spontaneous thankfulness to find that they lived up to their snappy, sweet, delicious name. More significant, Im thankful for a good home, good health, a stable income, and for the completion of my Ph.D. dissertation. Much more important, Im thankful for twenty years of marriage to Cheryl, twenty one years of ordained ministry, and for three years of service at Old Trinity. Most significant are matters of faith. Above all we all, the Church, are grateful for the life, death, and resurrection of Christ, through whom God loved us, who showed that Gods love for us has no limit, and who showed us that not even death can separate us from this love. We can be deeply grateful for the hope of a peaceful rest when this life is over and for the sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life in Christ Jesus. In this faith we can and should also be thankful for what God is doing among us and around us here and now, too. We can be grateful that Old Trinity is growing in size, and even more that we are growing in mission and discipleship, especially through our education, stewardship, and community ministries. We can give thanks for growing relationship with other Lutheran and non-Lutheran communities. Each one of us can all be thankful that God has provided us all with the Church in which we can grow in faith, love, and joy throughout our lives. And we can be thankful for those practices whereby God brings about this growth in disciples. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has boiled these practices down to seven: worship, prayer, study, supporting one another, sharing the Gospel, serving others, and giving for Christs work. Sometimes I think of these as seven Gs: gather for fellowship, get grace through word and sacrament, gain in understanding through study, get down to pray, get up to serve, give for Christs mission, and get the gospel Word out to the world. In these Christ is revealed to us, in us, yielding fullness of life. God is at the center of all, full life centers in discipleship, discipleship centers in worship, and worship centers on Christs gift to us of his body and blood. This gift is shared in Holy Communion, which we also call the Eucharist, a New Testament word which simply means thanksgiving. All of this means Gods great gift to us is thanksgiving, and Gods great desire for us is that we join in joyful thanksgiving with all the saints, foreverand now! Amen! +Peace+

Presidents Report
We have just gone through our stewardship campaign, led by Spiritual Formation chair Rachel Hammer, and would like to thank everyone who submitted a pledge card on which to build our 2013 budget. Your positive responses will enable us to continue the growth of our programming and to compensate our employees at an acceptable rate. We appreciate your commitment to the ministries of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. One of the areas in which we need to determine our expenses will be with the new director of our music program. Many of you have participated in our town hall meetings at which you could share your ideas and thoughts about how our music program should work. We would like to thank Carol Barger, Bill Dross, Neal Coryell, Pastor Peterson, David Reiss, Tom Wells, and Geoff Wilhelm for attending these meetings to hear what you had to say so a job description can be developed for this position. Having completed the job description by the end of October, the Finance Committee will be determining how much money will be needed to pay the person who will be filling this position. We will continue to make you aware of where we stand in the process of selecting a new music director. A group to which we need to extend a great deal of thanks is Matt Heinlein and the Property Committee. Due to a number of cost-saving energy conversions, our utility bills have been significantly under budget. Of course, your financial support helped to bring about these savings and we appreciate your help with these efforts. But the savings dont stop here. Matt showed the Congregation Council a new exterior light which will be saving the church even more money over the next few years. Look elsewhere in The Tidings for more information on this exciting opportunity. Treasurer David Johnston and the Finance Committee have had some eye-opening developments this year which are driving some structural changes in how they will be completing their responsibilities. It has become apparent that new procedures for keeping the church financial records are needed and the transition to a new one is in process. No alarm is needed as there are no funds missing from any account. Our finances are in pretty good shape. We are just trying to make our record keeping become a little faster and more efficient. More information on this will be presented at the annual meeting. As you can see, there is a lot going on with the business of the church that will hopefully make its operations the most efficient they can be so we can expand the reach of our ministries. We have been blessed in a number of ways, from our abilities to give to the church to the capable and committed individuals who are running our programming to the vision and outreach the members of our congregation desire. Be sure to give thanks to the Lord as we continue to move forward with our ministries. We truly are blessed.
Thank you Thank you to all Trinity family members who have completed and returned their 2013 Estimate of Giving cards. Cards have been mailed to those who were unable to participate in our Consecration activities during worship on Saturday and Sunday, October 13 and 14. We hope that you found combining Consecration activities with the overall worship experience to be meaningful. We will provide a full report of this years stewardship program in the December Tidings.
Note from Communication and Evangelism: We will begin to survey the Congregation in November to see how many people are interested in receiving the Electronic version of the Tidings. Please take time to fill out and return one of these surveys. Please come out and let your opinions be heard on our Facebook, Website, or any ideas you have for making Trinity be more visible in the community. We meet every month on the 1st Tuesday at 6:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. Also, you can contact me at RNeymeyer@[Link] or 614-446-9872. Thank you, Robert Neymeyer

LOVE Committee Sponsored by Community Ministry
On November 17th at 3:30pm we will have the 1st of hopefully many meetings. LOVE stands for Let Our Voices Emerge; we are a group for GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered) people and their Allies. LOVE was created to combat the stigma that all religious people are against GLBT people and believe they have no place in the church. We are a group of open minded, forward thinking individuals. We will be getting to know one another during the first meeting, and discussing religious views. We would like to invite all of you to attend and make this a successful gathering. Hope to see you there, Mary Roberts Chair of Community Ministry Robert Neymeyer L.O.V.E. Facilitator

Amanda was confirmed at Trinity. She taught Sunday school for years, beginning when she was just 16. She sang in the choir for 43 years. Shes been on Church Council multiple times and was Congregational Life Committee chairman a time or two. She is a member of the womens circles and has been treasurer for the womens group for 12 years. She worked in the office years ago; putting together the bulletin back in the 40s and 50s when there was no church secretary, and then helping out part time when she retired from the county auditors office in 1981. And she ordered the poinsettias for Christmas, the lilies for Easter and the palms for Palm Sunday for over 20 years. I was always down helping, doing something. And Im still here, helping do the newsletter and mailing it. Amandas mother was a member of Trinity and her father was a member as well, later in his life, after Walter Myers, Ruths father and Evangelism Committee chairman, got him to join hed walk to church and would always sit up in the balcony. The good Lord has blessed us here. I love all the people at Trinity. Ive made so many friends. Really and truly, they are my family. by Katie Brandt

Thank you again for all your help and support!! The members of Trinity Lutheran Church donated 608 bars of bath size soap to the Lutheran World Relief! The soap was collected from January through September, 2012. The members of Rachel Circle counted the bars of soap. Georgianna Mickles packed the soap in mail boxes which she donated to the project. She also marked the boxes with the information that Lutheran World Relief wanted on each box. Our thanks go to Shirley Griffin for transporting the boxes of soap to Faith Lutheran Church located on the eastside of Columbus. REMEMBER 608 PEOPLE WILL BE SERVED. Sharon Thacker, chair

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church is a Reconciling in Christ Congregation. The members of Trinity Lutheran Church recognize that God loves, Forgives, and calls each of us unconditionally and that every human being is created in the image of God. As a result, we welcome all people into our community of faith and invite them to join us as we seek to understand Gods love for us and struggle to be faithful messengers of that love in the world. Although our world is a place of alienation and brokenness, Christ calls us to reconciliation and wholeness. In response, we join hands with all our sisters and brothers, grateful for the unique gifts that each of us has to offer, regardless of our race, age, gender identity, marital status, physical and mental abilities, sexual orientation, national origin, or economic status. We celebrate together both the diversity of Gods creation and our unity as Gods people.
