Perimeter and Area of Rectangles
Perimeter and Area of Rectangles
The City Photography Club is redecorating a room at the Community Center for their use. The room measures 30 ft by 20 ft. The ceiling height is 10 ft. 1. Three of the walls are to be painted. The fourth wall, which is along a 30 ft side, is to be wallpapered. It is estimated that a $12 gallon of paint will cover approximately 400 square feet of wall area. It is also estimated that an $8 roll of wallpaper will cover 30 square feet of wall area. Find the approximate costs for wall coverings and paint for the 4 walls. Explain how you found your answer.
2. The club members would like to put a hardwood floor in one corner of the room. The floor would be in the shape of a right triangle so the sides in the corner have lengths 10 ft and 8 ft. The cost of a hardwood floor is $5 per square foot. Find the cost for the hardwood floor and explain how you found your answer.
3. The remainder of the floor is to be carpeted at $18 per square yard. How many square feet are equal to 1 square yard? Find the cost of carpeting the remaining floor area. Explain how you found your answer.
4. Ceiling molding is to be placed around the entire room. The cost for the molding is $0.65 per foot. Find the total cost and explain how you found your answer.
5. How much would it cost to do the decorating outlined above? The clubs budget for decorating is $1,400. Do they have enough money? If not, give some ideas on how they can reduce their costs.
