The Angora Rabbit
Sheep is an important source of wool for many people over the centuries. Though, there are other animals which serve this purpose as well. This report is going to highlight and provide information about angora rabbits. They have been widely famous as a weird animal. Angora rabbits known for its soft and silky wool come in mainly 4 different kinds i.e. English, French, Giant and Satin recognized by American Rabbit Breeder Association (ARBA). Angora rabbits were originated in Ankara, Turkey and one of the oldest domestic animals raised among rabbits. They look weird compared to a normal rabbit, similar to a fur ball. They are habitually calm and quiet in nature. There are differences among the different kinds of angora rabbits. The English Angora rabbits are recognized as the smallest among all and common as a house pet due to its adorability looking like a cute little puppy weighing only 2-3.5 kg. The French Angora rabbits are larger weighing 7-10 lbs and their wool is different, guarded by a mass of hair on the surface. The Giant Angora rabbits are also larger and usefully efficient economically, producing more wool. The Satin Angora rabbits are smaller weighing only 3-4.5 kg and do not produce as much wool. Either by shearing, combing or plucking, anyone who is taking care of Angora rabbits should take off their wool four times per year minimum. This is because usually their wool grows in every 3-4 months ready for harvesting and if not, bound to get tangled themselves in their cages. In addition to this, it is important that they are groomed about twice a week at least for cleanliness and in order to avoid webbing of hair around the house. The work involved in raising an Angora rabbit is quite much and thus may not be suitable for children. They are for people with patience due to their high maintenance and time consumption. However, these rabbits are easy to bond with since they are very gentle and soft just like their coat of wool.
